Going down the road.
Riders good and all, but the road to me is release.
Rider(thou it's a great tune) is just a fantastic groove to ween me off Chinacat
and so begins the Chinacat-Rider wars

Nothing like riding down the highway on a sunny day listening to the sweet rhythm of BERTHA.

I'll tell ya, the music of the Grateful Dead was made for driving...pop in a show and bam, before you know it 3 hours have passed. It's the groove, no other band has it, just keeps things going as you cruise...

Favorite song on the road, have to go with Scarlet > Fire for the massive groove. The Grateful Dead are like a freight train, and S>F is the train crossing the country on a cool summer evening right at sunset..

I like any of the longer jams, like China/Rider, Lost Sailer/Saint and Terrapin, which is why I often throw in the Greek show from '85 (6/15??), which not only has all those, but it's a great soundboard recording. One cd that I always keep in the car!

i like big river alot. another favorite is black throated wind. when i put on the dead, i prefer the mellower. more heady stuff. almost any 74 show will make me happy.

The Grateful Dead and car trips go hand and hand for me. With current gas prices, it has become an expensive hobby to go rolling around the blue ridge mountains and listening to shows, but I do it anyway. I listen to shows from 67-95 and it's all great for a drive. Pigpen good lovin's and lovelights always get me poppin a couple feet out of my seat. For hot days I need a summer 89 or spring/summer 90 show.

One song that gets my going because of it's groove is the JGB version of the dylan song Tough Mama. The Grateful Dead never played it but man that song gets me going in the car.

I am surprised nobody mentioned Eyes Of The World yet, so let me be the first...

Eyes Of The World!

The 1974 circa with that dark jam in G that the boys used to do, it sends you places.

G jam? Hmmm, do you have an example show date?

I thought it was G but judging by your bemusement I'll take it I am wrong.

Best example I can give is 1973-06-10. There were many Eyes like this one but this one is the first that comes to mind
