Just listening to a great playin' from 73 the band is peaking, building up to the last chorus and then "...oooh yeeeeaaaahhhhhhhhaaaahhhhhhhh!" She wails.

So...what's the deal with Donna?

Not being a huge jerk, just a small one as usual, but did you just figure this out?

Donna was more of an instrument than a vocalist with the dead.

However a complete songbird with JGB.

No, I have been aware of it for about 23 years but being as I'm new here and the topics were moving slow I thought it would be a fun way to meet the neighbors. It was either that or name your favorite show opening song. Mine BTW is Shakedown street.

High Peaks wrote:She definitely sounded great woth JGB. My favorite track with Donna is "Tomorrow Never Knows" from The Dead movie bonus CD, 74 show

Uh, I think you mean "Tomorrow is Forever", the Dolly Parton/Porter Wagoner tune. I also love that song...

I thought that she really made Looks Like Rain and Cassidy.

I'll see your bet and raise you BIODTL, Sunshine Daydream, and Passenger! (Or should I go all-in with JGB's Lonesome/Long Way, Mighty High, Heaven's Door, Moonlight Mile, Let Me Roll It...)

She's gonna be playing a few blocks from house soon ...I'm thinking some spray paint graffiti right where the bus parks would be cool - DONNA WE LOVE YOU !
I know we have been down this road before but really does Phil and Jerry and Bob have great voices anyway ? Its RAGGED but RIGHT ya know ? They sing well together and can emote well but its kinda rough sometimes ...
Maybe its hard to harmonize with a bunch of stoned hippies ?
The early to mid 70's are slowing taking over my favorite period from the 80's.
The " Donna" Years.
Just saying.

I am thinking she couldn't hear herself properly when playing with the Dead. It is obvious from other project she can sing well but sometimes live it was just so...sheeesh. Those are some of my favorite years for the bands musicianship but sometimes her voice was like ice water on the fire.

I agree with you about not hearing herself.
