We bid farewell to our precious "Pearl" last year: a white 1970 hard-top Westy, now with a new family. She was a a lot of fun but noisy and strenuous to drive. But we miss her.
One-time workhorse for the band, she even carried a Hammond B-3 + Leslie a few times, before the band voted to quit busting our asses moving the thing around for the (non-driver) keyboardist anymore. What a thing to have to go through after putting on a show, eh? He eventually got a Korg Triton that madea lot more sense... plus our main venue has a house B-3 anyway.
We had a matching white 1968 Fastback (type III) as well, that was fun and sporty to whip around curves, but kind of a deathtrap too... we sold all of our old VW's when we became parents, and got a '99 Volvo.
"There, in huge black letters, was 'The Grateful Dead'. It just... cancelled my mind out."-Garcia
