Hi all! I would love to get some opinions and thoughts on building effects chains to emulate Bobby and Jerry's rigs (no specific era... just generally). First, I am not a serious player- just a hobbyist. I play solo at my desk along with recordings, backing tracks or just drum tracks. I guess you could say I am a 'digital' player.

For the past few years I have been using a software product called Guitar Rig 2 from Native Instruments. If you are not familiar with it, it emulates a multitude of amps, cabinets, effects, etc. by connecting an instrument to a computer via USB or Firewire interface. I do realize modelling software will NEVER replace the real thing. That said, it does produce passable tones for the budget-minded.

Using the software, I have created effects chains that I thought might best emulate Garcia and/or Weir's rigs using various resources on the web (i.e. Dozin, GearHeads, Yahoo Groups, etc.). Its fun and cheap without the cost of purchasing stomp boxes or rack effects.

I have to say that I really enjoy seeing descriptions and pictures of others' racks and pedal boards for ideas and inspirations. Its especially helpful when settings are described and/or easily identifiable in pictures. The last (short) thread that I read was very interesting and insightful.

So, as my Subject line suggests, I continue to 'build' rigs using my reliable modelling software. I would love to read any comments, suggestions or advice that anyone may have about the subject. If anyone else has any experience with modelling software let me know, if you please. And if all your effects chain building experience is with real analog (or digital) stompers or rack-mounts, I would love to read your descriptions, as well. If you aren't familar with Guitar Rig 2, I am going to attach several jpgs that show the effects that are available. The developer does not use exact product names so to not infringe on copyrights.

The Envelope and LFO modifiers allow you change waveforms and/or automate pedal action for wah, volume or whammy pedal effects. There is an effect called AutoFilter. It is an AutoWah effect which is the closest this program can emulate a Mutron. Their are several preset effects that are quite funky... ala Bootsy Collins. I have created several presets that I use when jamming to Fire or Estimated.

I think maybe I misrepresented what I was requesting... I realize that very few folks use modelling software. I was not really asking about rig setups specifically to software modellers. That was simply a commentary about what I use. If anyone with actual effects chains cares to share details and descriptions it would be really appreciated. Incidentally, if anyone wants more detail about what I am using, I would be happy to post or attach documentation.
