So... Anyone care to comment on the guitar solo?

The guitar solo doesn't fit the music, to my ear.
No melody (or embellishment of) whatsoever.
'Sounds like something maybe Eric Clapton would play if he had never heard the song before (that's a compliment to Larry!). 'Not sure of the need/choice of a non-clean tone (for the solo), either.
I did like the use of Tremelo on the non-solo segments (I assumed this was from Larry's rig).
I know... don't beat the Dead horse (woops, there goes another band name!.. "Dead Horsee"?).

btw, Is that Phils wife on vocals?

Yuck. The same reason I dont dig Warren's take on the Dead. Too muscular of a tone for the Dead.
They want to do something different I get that. Kudos's.
But it's not that different really.Kinda cliched sounding.

No, the female singer is Teresa Williams, who happens to be Larry Campbell's ( he of the widely dissed guitar solo ) wife.

I didn't much care for this particular solo, as well. But then, I'm having a hard time warming up to this particular edition of the "Phriends". I just don't like them as much as many previous lineups.

While I do have lots of fun seeing this lineup I really don't understand the choice of guitarists. First of all their tone is just not that great. They have a good, straight up rock guitar tone. No sick use of effects at all. Garcia was the master of using effects on his guitar. he always had the sweetest tone on his rig. Neither of these guys use effects well at all, they only use distortion, maybe a little delay. Basically the whole show they are up front ripping it with distorted guitars.

Dont get me wrong, this is a fun band to see but It is not quite as musically interesting as previous p&f lineups or even ratdog in the past few years.
WHen you listen to the lineup b4 this one wher it was larry campbell and barry sless the music was great. It had campell's regular sounding guitar matched up with sless's awesome tone. When you were at a show with that lineup the whole time you just couldn't believe how awesome the tone of the guitar was.

Maybe I am wrong to think this but when I see a member of the Grateful Dead I am expecting to hear some truly sick guitar tone. P&F is clearly lacking in sick guitar tone right now.
I think he needs to bring back Barry Sless. Didn't hit any of the NYC run thes past weeks but he did actually break sless back out, but I think he was on pedal steel most of the time. Listen to the tapes, His pedal steel tones is better than their guitar tone and when he breaks out a guitar u can really hear the difference.

I don't get it - what's so different about his hair? That's more or less how I remember it looking for the last few years. I do have my suspicions about whether or not it's actually all his, however..... Let's be honest, how many folks pushing 70 do YOU know have such thick, lustrous locks?
