What are you guys using for portable stage lights? I think I'm interested in those lights that change to the beat of the music. I have no clue what is good and what's a waste of money, any thoughts?

I bought something by Cauvet (i think) and it sucked.

The buzz is that you have to spend some cake or get crap.

I'm gonna tear apart that POS and see what I can do with it.

I bet with minimal work I can get something nice!

as far as the lights going to the beat of the music, thats all depends on the board right?

My lighting experience is vague, but from what Ive learned, the workstations have options to create "actions" or "runs". Thats what makes the light go from the middle to the outside and back, blink randomly or in time to the music, etc.(you have to program each one) For blinking to the music, you would have to adjust the timer to match the tempo of the music.

that might help or it may have done absolutely nothing, wish I could remember the information the lighting guy from a production company in Atlanta told me...

I've got a set of four American DJ Par 36s, I think? There's 56, 48, and then whatever the 30-size is called. I've had bands with the bigger cans and I prefer the smaller ones.

Anyway, they're pretty small and lightweight but throw plenty of light. They came as a package with a T-stand and a really basic controller and foot controller that basically just do different chases. Someday I'll get another set of 4 and a better controller but for now it's a great start and was only $200 at Guitar Center.

To me these are a whole lot better than nothing, and easily upgradeable when the time comes. You could spend twice as much but you'd not get double the benefit.
