I think i am going to get a Q-tron because the emma and the Mutron are too expensive. Im just wondering if you guys know the differences in all the different kinds, the Q-tron, the Q-tron +, and so on. Which do you recomend I get. thanks for the help.

Well I myslef have a Q-Tron + and honestly I would say to just save up and get the Emma bc It sounds amazing/not schizophrenic.

My + is really annoying. When you turn it on the sound gets really full and theres a big volume boost, so if you use it then turn it off, your tone will sound a lot weaker than it just did and you will lose volume. The effect itself sounds pretty good, once you dial it in perfect. And expect to have to dial it in before everytime you play. The same settings never seem to work a second time. Also, It stopped working twice. I had to send it to ehx to get it fixed the first time. The second time it didnt work, then a few hours later it did.

BUT if you are stills et on a qtron dont get the plus. The effect loop is extremley stupid. You can only use the effects in the loop while the pedal is engaged. Pointless if you ask me. I have tried numerous effects in it nothing really sounds great or useable. You can also choose between fast and slow response, but its not a giant difference. I usually have it on fast which is the normal q setting anyway. The + is a scam for more $$$ methinks.

The only reason I havent sold mine is because qtron+ > whammy gets some real cool Bernie Worrell style sounds. Moogish. But I never use it alone.

One thing I might keep in mind is that Garcia never used the UP mode much (or at all?) on his MuTron until he got his first onboard fx loop in late 76. Prior to that, it was used primarily in DOWN mode as on Dancing In The Streets... I'll probably get hit over the head with some exceptions to this, but he didn't get that pleasing UP behavior found on Estimated/FotM/etc until that innovation was added to the equation.
