I'm just curious, is anyone here a Rory Gallagher fan?

If so where do you compare Rory to old Eric Clapton?

I'd put Jerry on too but he played a kinda diffrent style. I mean he still played the blues but not standard 12 bar.

So Eric or Rory.

For me Rory. Eric did some great stuff with Cream, Blind Faith and Derek & The Dominos, sadly the rest of his stuff was sub-par.

From what I've heard Rory is great at any part of his career.

I highly recommend, to anyone who hasn't heard of Rory and might want to hear some of his stuff, "Live in Europe" and "Irish Tour '74".

Some great EC to check out is any Cream, Blind Faith's one and only album, and Derek & The Dominos self-titled album and "Live At the Fillmore East 1970"

Nice post. But tough to answer. Huge fan of both. Gallagher had more technically ability, but Clapton more song crafting ability and appeal. And I wouldn't argue Clapton's other/solo work is that bad? 461 Ocean Blvd, Slowhand, Unplugged, Reptile? All solid albums with great guitar playing. Rory had a pretty rough period too, heavy boozing (can't remember when it was though). But I digress.. :D

Listening to a few tracks right now, my vote's for Rory.

To many greats to pick just one best through, ya know

I didn't say it was bad, I said sub-par.

Actually I like a lot of post-"god" Clapton songs come to think of it.

Cocaine, Knockin' On Heaven's Door, Further On Up The Road, Let It Grow, Lay Down Sally, I Shot The Sheriff... Just to name a few.

Clapton has serious chops and I have been a long time fan. But i would have to vote for Rory over a career. However i would rather listen to Eric's cream stuff that any of Rory's
I will vote for Rory. But it is more of a tie for me.

Right, sorry, just got a little defensive there.

How is Clapton like coffee?

They both suck without Cream!

Clapton for me
They both play blues but I think they really are two different beast's.
The Beano album is great - love the Hideaway - my fav version and the one I try to cover.
Saw Clapton in '89 at the Spectrum - it was one LOUD ASS concert.
Also Crossroads is just about one of the greatest live solo's ever ...
I love Gallaghers intensity though.

Love Rory! My girlfriends dad is obsessed with him, and has seen him tons of times. He gave me a bunch of his bootleg tapes he recorded/got.

Oh, The Bluesbreakers. It's nicknamed after the comic Clapton is reading on the cover. It totaly forgot that till you said it.

I have a bunch of Rory boots, he's easy to find on most torrent sites.
