When it doesn't fit anywhere else

Hey Yall,

So here's the deal. This upcoming Christmas will be the last time I will be with my family for a very long time. I would like to give them something special and unique as a present. You know, something "heartfelt." Here's the catch, I'm broke (as are many Americans right now). But I already own the essential equipment required for recording as well as some beautiful instruments.

I'm recording an album of original music and lyrics. The sound I'm going for is a mix between Nick Drake, early Wilco, Ryan Adams, and of course the Grateful Dead (72-74 era, but it's all good!).

I was hoping some of Y'all would be interested in collaborating with me to create this album. Anyone with basic recording equipment can join in. It would be a lot of fun to get an RUKIND community project going.

Let me know if you want in! Post or send me a message. ANYONE who plays any instrument or sings is welcome to join the jam.

Any lady singers out there? Or singing dudes?
Organ/Piano?
Upright/electric bass?
Banjo?
Mandolin?
Fiddle?
Cello?
Guitars of course. But any steel pedal?
Anything you play is cool.

I can't wait to get this started! It's going to be hella fun!!!!!!

Is it rude to ask where you're going?

How would the collaboration work?

would we all post clips of tunes, then have you put them together? I wish there was an online "jam" forum where you could log on, and meet others to do live jams, that would be sweet. Probably pretty expensive too, because you would have to have the proper equipment (interface, mics, instruments, etc.)

but man would that be cool

It does exsist! It's free too. Check out http://ejamming.com/. Its a pretty cool program. As long as you have some kind of preamp or input for the computer and a decent connection (better then dialup) you can jam in real time. I was playing with a guy named "FretfulDave" and I realized he was a member of this board. Pretty cool. You can play with folks from all over the world. I jammed with a guy from Amsterdam who was playing a cello yesterday.

About the recording--

I'll be recording the basic parts to the song (rhythm guitar and vocals) and maybe some additional stuff. Whoever wants to help out I'll just send them the file and let them add whatever they want-- Be it singing, guitar solos, basslines, drums, etc... Then they send their version of the song back to me. Then I'll send that same song to another person to add something else as well. So its like everyone is adding 1 piece to the song and all together its a whole song. It's easier then it sounds.

Emoto- I'm moving to Seattle. Texas is home.

Yah, thats the about it. Lemme know if you wanna jamm

Count me in man... i have a protools rig set up here in the house with a ton of amps and guitars... I can do guitars, vocals, mandolin (basic stuff) and sax. If you send me the track, I can records my parts right in protools and send it back. Also, I can do some mixing with you and some killer mastering stuff that makes the tunes sound so clear. Drop me a PM and i will send you an mp3 of my bands efforts...so you can hear the software.

I'd be into joining in on that project on keys for you---sounds pretty cool. Only problem is I have dial up and don't know squat about how to hook into ejams or the like. Basically, I know nothing about that sort of thing. If you've got a way to do it, lemme know and I'll do it.

Basically, you should be impressed that he even has an ELECTRONIC keyboard.

Count me in for at least one tune. I can add lead/rhythm acoustic or electric guitar, lap steel, bass, or congas. I have tons of this type of over the internet recording collaboration experience if ya need any tips.

I beleive Pink Floyd pioneered this method of recording, you just have to hate the other people you're recording with...

Sounds like a cool idea, love to help but as it is I barely have time to do anything but noodle arround anymore :(. Let me know if you want some mando/banjo/dulicmer/gutjo parts added...I'm sure I could find time for some disticive flavoring... espcailly after 11/15.

Count me in for all your low-end needs... I can provide electric, upright, fretless, keyboard/synth, any kind of bass you want. This would give me a good chance to try out all the cool recording-geeky stuff that I have here.

Also depending on the timeframe I may have my own family collaboration ready to use... my dad and I are building a Phil bass and it should be ready in a few weeks. http://www.flickr.com/photos/danfcrea/s ... 940563012/ it'd add a little extra meaning beyond all my off-the-shelf basses.

Very cool project!

Nice bass, RTS!!! Looks KILLER....dig the retro/Jerry-esque-body shape. 5-string, eh? Looks beautiful.

By the way, for this album thingy - I'd be happy to add any guitar or vocals...probably a lot better guitarists on here than me, but I think I can hang w/ just about everyone, vocally.

Nice! This is going to sound real cool. I'm still working on the songs so it'll be awhile until I can actually send some stuff to work on. Probably in about a month I'll have 6-7 songs ready for yall to jam with. I'm getting excited reading all these posts about what you guys can add to the mix.

I think I'll rent an FTP server so we can all upload/download files easily.

And I just want to make it really clear that this is a group project, so if anyone wants to add any of their own material please feel free.

Are there any poets out there?
Anyone with an organ, or authentic sounding sythns?
Female singers?
Piano?

I'll send anyone who replied a PM and anyone else who wants in just let us know and we'll be sure to find somewhere to use your talents.

Bookmark this page and ill keep yall updated.

THanks yall! this is gonna be rocking........
