Just wanted to pass this along. Rondo is now taking custom orders on certain of their electric guitars. If you don't know about Rondo, they were a NJ-based retail store that went totally on-line and sells Asian knock-offs that are suprisingly very well made for the money. I have a gold-top Agile LP that I paid $199 for, and swapped out the stock P90s for a set of Lollars shortly after I got it. Pure butter. This guitar gets played the most although I don't play all that often anymore. I also have one of their $99 Strats in my office for daytime noodling. It needs some work but for the price you can't beat it. Check the Fender Discussion Page for more info - a lot of folks over there have bought guitars from Rondo.

I hate to admit it but I like my cheap gold-top more than my modified AM DLX Strat (Kinmans, Callaham block, Stratoblaster), Mexican Tele and Ibanez Artcore. The finish has some very minor flaws that you can only see up close, the neck is a thin profile and the frets were well dressed.

Anyone own a 12-string electric? I've wondered what they would sound like, probably pretty cool. I saw one on the site for 399.99 (or something around there), thats whats sparking my curiosity

I have two of the douglass basses they carry (same thing low $$, made in china). 5 sting neck-thru fretless and a McCartney Style violin bass. They both look and play awsome, I couldn't be happier with thier products. The violin bass was 150 and the fretless was a bit more, like 250 maybe 300, but it has an active system and built in EQ. I'll probably buy some guitars from him someday (currently at storage capaity :( ).

Weir - I have a semi hollow 12 string eletric. which I paid about 300 for if I remember right. Alnico 3 toaster style buckers in it. Really clean jangly sound a la the byrds or early REM. If you don't have a 12 string, I'd get an eletric, and semi or solid body. Hollow bodied/acoustic 12 strings pull themselves apart from the string tension, even when kept below standard tuning (I'm already on my second, in less than 10 years - though the 1st was pretty cheap). And if Rondo is selling a 12 string for 400, I'd say pony up the extra 50 and get a fender XII, I think I;ve seen them on special for that price (musician's friend) but they list at 750??? Maybe I'm mistaken.
