I don't know why - I can't explain it - but I just don't see this happening. Maybe I'll be wrong, who knows.
I always classified Warren as a "regular rocker". You know, kind of generic. But I saw him a bunch of times play with Phil and always enjoyed him. Here's the kicker: one time at the Orpheum in Boston (with Phil), he did a Soulshine and during the solo "the thing" happened. You know what I mean. Yes, THAT thing. So... he is capable of finding that space that we all know exists.

If they do this, it should be in Philly. Plenty of reason to do it in either place, after all Obama/Biden just kicked off the official campaign in Pittsburgh. But my reason for Philly is different.
They are going to tear down the Spectrum at the end of the year. That venerable old facility I saw so many shows at. From 81 through the end. Many memories, some not so clear

Also, the Spectrum has a "Grateful Dead" banner up in the rafters along with (what used to be) the Flyers banners and Sixers and stuff. They got awarded that for how many shows they played at that venue, I believe.
It might just be fitting to play there, even though I just read about what bad shape it is in. Last time I was there was for an "Other Ones" show and it was tight... very tight. But even with all that, it would seem appropriate for them to shut it down, as they had done for other famed venues and like the final event at JFK stadium in Philly, a Dead concert I was at, weird as it was, but that as they say is another story.
So if any of the boys happen to peruse this forum, please take that into consideration. Maybe if the banner celebrating the Grateful Dead is still there, it could be lowered and given to the band at the end of the show.
but I wax sentimental.

sadly, none that I have. I was never much of a photographer or a video taper. Lived life as it happened, hold the memories.
As bad as my memory is nowadays, I recall it was black lettering on an orange background, the Flyer colors.

If they do a tour in 20009 I wonder if this may be a possibility, 20009 marks the 40th anniversary of the Allman Brothers rumor has it they are going to have a lot of guest and a pretty extensive tour. There are rumbling the Andy Hess is going to be leaving mule as well could we see a Living Dead/ Allman brothers tour with Warren pulling double duty? With the Band’s past histories I can imagine a lot of cool possibilities (and guest appearances) its probably a pipe dream (pun intended) but it would be awesome!!!

Its nice to hear that Warren Haynes may join the boys. I have always felt that he is best fit to carry the guitar work in Jerrys absence although I am not a huge Govt. Mule fan. Great guitar player and soulful vocals as well. As for the political slant, not in agreement here but a repulican in VT is wasting his vote as I always do lol !
The real reason you want it in Philly is because you live about 40 minutes from therewell, more like an hour and a quarter, nominal. Plus, did you ever try to get to the sports complex for a Dead show? Takes 4ever. I know the pretty unknown shortcut back to the Schukyll for years now but there is no short way into the shows
.Pappy, while it is true that I would love to have the show here for selfish reasons, what I said about the Spectrum and the banner is true and heartfelt.
The concert is supposed to be Oct 13th according to the article. That is a Monday night. well, at my age and stage in life that means taking two days off of work and doing so at while in the midst of one of the most important projects my corporation has even undertaken. Not sure if the old lady and me are going be able to get there. Even if we could get tickets. We'd love to go, especially w/ my old concert bud of lo these past 27 years.
I hope you get to go, Pappy, if they do it in Pittsburgh. That would be sweet!
Anyone wanna speculate if this will be a higher priced show as it will be a political fundraiser? Maybe tickets in multi hundreds of $$$?

Reflecting on the whole thing further, I imagine that an event like this would not be held in a structure that is 30 years old and preparing to be torn down.
The Wachovia Center, with all its flashy distractions, would be the only choice.
