Agree with Billbbill and Cadillac, its too bad that you can't hear Bela. But having seen Bela and the Flecktones a few times, I wonder if he is playing an acoustic banjo (kinda looks like it) or one of his electrics, which he uses effects on and that would sound very different in the mix. I tried to ferret it out. One of his electric banjos does look pretty regular and I couldn't tell for sure. The other I have seen looks very "electric" if you will. They sound interesting through auto-wahs and compression boxes, etc. He sounds very Jerry-like at times when he has the electric banjo going and the effects on.
But the thing that I find the most interesting is how focused Jerry is on Bruce for the majority of the video. It seems that the bass player and Bela are not so focused, at least in comparison. Jerry does look away and around every once in a while but mostly concentrates on Bruce and what Bruce may throw at them.
My wife got the opportunity to dance on stage when Bruce was here a number of years back. Steve Kimock was along for that tour. My wife remarked afterward that all the musicians on stage were incredibly focused on Bruce. Noone took their eyes off him the entire time he let all the ladies dance up there and she could see. While having a 50+ year old lady get to dance w/ Bruce was major cool unto itself, I understand some of my downfall when I play. Gotta keep from rolling eyes back in head, closing them, etc. and pay more attention!!!!! Just as Jerry did when playing with another band with another leader.
I love seeing a great musician just be able to do it and do it so well outside of what they usually do.
