yeah so i never came back and updated on our trip..
we stayed in Jersey city on the suggestion of a friend who lives in brooklyn, his co worker lives there and said we'd have easy access to the path train and that would get us right to a nearby subway station.
he was right it was super easy to get from our hotel to the trains and back.
we got there friday the kids didnt sleep a wink and our game tickets were for friday night. the pictures of my kids on the subway looking like zombies was on our way to the game; it was when they finally started to crash. It was funny because i checked us into the hotel and warned them to take a nap and they stayed up bouncing off the walls and calling mom instead...
The game friday rained out and we went back saturday night for a doubleheader make up. The stadium experience was awesome and the fans were cordial; i expected some stereotypical new york hard asses talking crap while we strolled through the stadium with our giants gear on, but most people were just amazed we came form california for a game and were offering tips on stadium food or places to see.
staurday morning we went to the wall street/ business district and hoofed it to battery park area where we caught the statten island ferrry (another tip from my buddy) so we could see the statue of liberty. after the game we went to times square ( my camera disk was full at this point) had dinner at the ESPN zone and watched Timmy Lincecum pitch his fist complete game- a shut out!
sunday we woke up super late and took a train to the american museum of natural history, then went to central park and back to times square (my kids wanted to eat at this restaurant called Mars 2112 which is supposed to be some space themed restaurant geared towards kids) we got lost looking for the place and wound up eating at a pizza spot (i forgot the name but its a big chain in NY and they serve it at the stadium)
monday we checked out and drug all our luggage up town to find FAO Schwarz, the one in SF closed down and we had been telling the kids about it, so i had to keep my word. then we took the train all the way to brooklyn and had Pizza at grimaldis. BEST PIZZA EVER! then train back to JFK
a couple of things i figured out: kids dont have to pay to go onto the path or subway (i could have saved about 20$ had i known this on day one and two).
the E on a train means fewer stops faster travel.
NY subways are not that hard to navigate (by sunday i was helping people find their way)
when the rain lifts and the heat kicks up, central park smells like pee...
