Sorry for the C&P of the invite...
----------------------

July 11 at 7pm at Potter's House coffee house/restaurant/bookstore/art space, 1658 Columbia Road in AM (http://www.pottershousedc.org/), for a family-friendly evening of roots rock and progressive hip hop to raise money for ONE DC (formerly Manna Community Development Corporation). Suggested donation is $20.

ONE DC's mission is to create and preserve racial and economic equity through community organizing that centers on the immediate needs and life experiences of DC residents. For more information, go to http://onedconline.org/.

The evening will feature two sets of American music: My band, The Road (formerly the Pleasant Mountain Boys), will start things off with a tribute to the roots/rock music of the Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Wilson Pickett, Tom Petty, and Jimi Hendrix among others.

Headlining the program will be Southeast DC hip hop phenom (and Ellington HS grad) Christon "Christylez" Bacon . His recent gigs include the National Cathedral, Kennedy Center, and the Mansion at Strathmore. In March 2008, Christylez became the first Hip-Hop artist to receive an artist in residence position at Strathmore Hall. His tunes, such as "Welfare Check," range from stinging critiques of U.S. economic policy to narratives, like "Metroneusense" and "Tyranny," which describe the experiences of DC African American teenagers riding the Metro system, and the meaning of the U.S. war in Iraq, respectively.

I hope you'll come out for this fun and meaningful event in support of an organization that quietly helps make our lives, as DC residents, richer.
