I have a 95 50th anniversary fender roland ready stratocaster that i mess around with everyonce and a while but most of the time i just play the guitar straight with no midi. It's fun to mess around with though a lot of things you can experiment with. I was going to have a Gk3 hooked up in my resurrection bolt but i decided not to considering i don't mess around with the midi that much.

Hes does some cool Flute-y type stuff.Sounded like '90 Jerry.
I think he even posted a pic once where he mounted part of the MIDI apparatus to his guitar in an unconventional spot or something .....

I am not currently using any midi interfaces, however, in my never-ending quest of building my own "jerry-esque" guitar (I still trying to decide what is going to go in my "Hippie sandwich"), I have decided to go with the GK-50...or is it the 30???? I have made the guys at the local music shop nuts by hitting every bank, patch, and all variations in between. IMO (Limited as my knowlege may be of such matters) It ROCKS. The noodle factor alone is worth me throwing it in the new "Phil-caster". I am also considering getting the out-board trigger (Pickup) for the Artist then getting an internal trigger for the guitar in progress.
I have not experimented with anything other than what the local shop has but have done some digging and it appears there are many to choose from.

Free advice.... (Worth exactly what you paid for it).
Get the GK, turn on some Miles or create a CD, Mp3 etc... with about an hour of Space and turn off the lights and go to town. The self entertainment value alone is worth it to me.

Yeah, I went old school (if there is such a thing for MIDI guitar!), for budget reasons. I have the Roland GR-09 and GK-2a mounted on my 1991 American Standard Fender Stratocaster (equipped with 2 Seymour Duncan single coils and a humbucker on the bridge). I did mount it in an unconventional spot. I have gotten used to it, but the reason I mounted it high, instead of low, is because my friggin case wouldn't close. SO, rather than wait to modify my case, or use double-sided tape, I got impatient since it was gig-night and screwed it right into the bastard!!

The sounds I use predominantly are:

1. Flute
2. Trumpet
3. Baritone Sax (GREAT for "The Other One")
4. (not as much, but sometimes) Steel Drums

I haven't sat down with it in awhile to modify some of the sounds. I will probably do that this Sunday night, in preparation for Potter County XV....I know there's a "PAN FLUTE" sound on there that has a lot of "breath" behind it...Jerry used this sound a LOT and I always forget what patch # it is on mine...

I'll be mostly playing my new custom, but whippin' out those sounds once in a while is cool... lotsa freedom.

ive also been wondering about MIDI for a while now, how much would it cost to get a decent midi system for one of my backup guitars? and also what exactly are the components fo a midi system? thanks

I bought mine used about 3 years ago. It's a ROLAND GR-09 with a ROLAND GK-2A pickup. I think I paid $250 for the both units. It came with a power supply adapter and a MIDI cable, too. Good deal. You can probably buy the UPGRADED editions for about the same price these days. I'd check out used ones... craigslist or your local music store, if they have a used dept.
