Thursday June 5th is the one-year anniversary of Matt Deveney's passing; Matty was Playing Dead's original keyboardist. He was diagnosed with GIST, a rare form of cancer, in February of 2007, and we lost him about three months later.

In his honor and his memory, Playing Dead will perform two shows this weekend:

Friday June 6, Harpers Ferry, Allston MA 9:30 PM -- Just a $5 cover (you can give more to a band member if you like); the venue and band are donating the entire door to Matt's foundation for research into GIST at Dana Farber Cancer Center. We will do two long electric sets.

Saturday, June 7, Museum of Science, Boston MA, 6:30 pm -- Outdoors on the banks of the Charles River; Playing Dead will play acoustic and electric sets, with a catered BBQ buffet. Cost is a donation at the door; the suggested amount is $100 but the family was quick to tell the Deadheads and Matt's friends that whatever they can spare is just fine, they want his friends there. There will be a raffle and silent auction with amazing items, including FREE BEER FOR A YEAR from Sam Adams, numerous Red Sox tickets, a signed Jonathan Papelbon baseball, a delivered clambake from Legal Seafoods and a bunch of gift certificates and gift cards to restaurants, gas stations and other places.

Please come out and support this event, or tell any Deadheads you might know in the greater Boston area. We have already raised close to $10,000 in advance for his foundation, and all proceeds go to Dana Farber.

Thanks ... don't mean to spam for this event, but we lost him so quickly and easily, it's a lesson ... tell your friends and your loved ones that you love them ... Matt was only 35.

Was actually a really beautiful night, nice breeze off the water and the outdoor pavillion was shaded. Probably one of the nicest outdoor venues I've had the pleasure of playing.

Best of all, we raised more than $20,000 for the cause.

The band did our first acoustic set ever, I'll post up some video in the next few days.
