So after having loads of trouble with my 212 Fender DeVille, i've decided to look at new amps. My range is in the 500 dollar area, maybe a little higher if its worth it. Although i love an all tube amp and am resistant to change, I feel like it might be worth it to get a hybrid for the sake of reliability. I am not very likely to go for a full solid state amp, but I haven't entirely ruled that out if I could find a truely good amp.

Just wondering if any of you have suggestions on a good hybrid amp(preamp tubes with solid state power) in that $500-700 range that could crank out some good solid tone (anybody play something like this and get a good Jerry/Trey tone?).

Just curious, what's up with your DeVille? My friend has one and it's an upgrade tonewise from his modeling amp (Johnson). I see a lot of these amps for sale in Craigs List.
If you're still striving for good tone, I'd stick with tube amps.

well heres the thing i dont know whats wrong exactly. Not only does this amp burn through preamp tubes like no other (like the one that decided to go out 2 minutes before our first show...), but sometimes my tone will be extremely muddy for no reason and also will sometimes cut out. I have brought it into the techs at our local shop and they have "fixed it" a couple times already, and it is still messed up. I dont actually know what to do with it, but my next step is to call fender... i bought the amp used at the shop so i dont know how much help fender will be, but well see

Hybrid amps are usually tube pres and SS poweramp.
You'd still have the same vulnerability...

Might I suggest instead a better tube amp?

I've been playing through a TubeDriver (now owned by Genz-Benz) for years with a tube pre and ss power amp. I love it for rehearsals and small gigs, but it doesn't project on its own with the one 12" speaker. I'm thinking of dropping an E120 in itjust to see what more overhead might bring.

As I understand it,the difference is that a hybrid usually has a much smaller pre-amp section (usually one tube), so that may be something to consider if you are really going for that Jerry Fender tone. IMO, only a real Fender preamp section is going to achieve that.
