I still have an old Washburn solid-top dreadnought that was my first acoustic guitar, bought used and converted to lefty back in 1986. When I had the righty-to-lefty work done, they asked what kind of nut I would like, and as a 16-17 year old who didn't know "any better", I had them put on a brass nut. Made for a slightly better-sustaining bluesy lead instrument, but also a little bit boomy and obnoxious for strumming! The neck was broken once and repaired perfectly, and it's been my "beater" acoustic ever since I bought a used Taylor 610L back in '94. Ah who am I kidding, I beat on it before. It's got tens of thousands of road miles on it and been through all kinds of climate extremes, and I've literally dragged it over rocks and boulders. Their stuff is rugged, that's for sure. They still build them in Buffalo Grove, IL?
