We all have our own opinions as to what our own favorites dates and songs are that were performed by the dead... But I was wondering, does anyone know of any interviews or anything of them indicating what some of their own personal favorite dates/songs are? I've seen Jerry and Bobby in interviews say that they thought they did terrible at all the 'big ones', for example Woodstock, in which they said they were gettin shocked every time they touched their instruments.... but what about the ones they liked best??? Also curious as to their own favorite songs they performed...???

I don't know if after 30 years they had any personal favorites, per say....maybe they did.

I do remember an interview where Garcia said that he would from time to time get fixated on a particular song and want to keep playing it.....at the time it was Althea, we he played both nights in New Haven.

I think I also remember him saying something about not understanding why everyone liked St. Stephen so much and that he didn't really care for it.

Ed, I totally remember an interview with Jerry kinda slagging on St. Stephen in the "Lady finger, dipped in moonlight" part with the backing guitar notes over/under the lyrics...

Kinda surprised me that he seemed down on that.

I was at a Q&A with Weir at Jazz Fest back in 2000 I think, anyway, someone asked him this question, he said on a good night he enjoyed Looks Kie Rain and Terrapin Station.

Right, he referred to that section as being "awkward" if I recall that correctly. And I think he's right....after they re-did it. I totally preferred the original, Live Dead style for that part.

Yeah, the waltzy "Lady Finger" revised version never did it for me.

I think the Dead had so many memorable nights that it wasn't worth remembering.

Well you can get a taste of Bob and Phil's favorites by checking out the cd's, "Fall out from the phil zone" and "best of bob weir". They personally picked what tracks to play on those cd's.
