for me it was 2-12-06 Beacon theatre phil lesh and friends with trey Anastasio...for some reason that Franklins just gives me the chills....i love that whole show except for a few monster mistakes in the second set (St Stephen and We bid you goodnight). The they love each other is very hot as well.

Have to agree with Blob, I don't think people listen to enough post-jerry recordings to have favorites. It would be pretty limited to ones we've seen.

That said, I have seen Ratdog do it twice and Phil once. The first time with Ratdog was best, that was summer 06 at Radio City Music hall, the tour with String Cheese.

what motivates you to play if you think that anything post garcia doesn't matter?

i'm not trying to bash or anything, but there are still brilliant guitarists out there who can do really amazing things with these songs. of course there will never be another garcia, the melodies, creativity, space all of that, that was garcia.

but have you heard herring? haynes? karan? they have their own creativity too, and hearing them do garcia's songs well, is just fine by me.

that being said, i saw ratdog do franklin's with kimock wailing away and its my most memorable franklin's, i've seen phil (with campbell) do it as well, and ratdog with karan, but kimock at the greek theatre blew me away.

are you saying that you never heard a Garcia Franklins or that the post Franklins with Kimock, the one you heard is better than a Jerry Franklins?

I agree, it's hard to beat a good Jerry Franklins, but you can appreciate a good attempt and think it was a awesome attempt. Being a musician, one can always appreciate a songe when you know it is played well.

I have to agree. I never really liked Warren in the Dead format. Playing or singing. In the Allmans. or Mule, ya i luv him, but he doesn't do it for me in the Dead setting.

Overall though, when i think of those songs i'm thinking about 1.) Shows i was at with Jerry or 2.) Shows i have burned into memory from old cassette boots'.

Hey, blob, I would definitely recommend catching Phil and his ever-changing band from time to time. For my money, Phil is still carrying a big piece of the old magic; much more so than Bobby. I don't know about this latest incarnation with Jackie Green, but a few of the past "& friends" have been good bands worth seeing.

I was always kind of luke warm about Haynes. thought he was ok in a "regular rocker" kind of way. But, one night at the Orpheum in Boston, Phil & Friends (with Warren) played a Soulshine and I have to say that Haynes played a solo that really hit the zone, if you know what I mean. Truly great. So, he may be kind of ordinary most of the time, but is capable of flashes of brilliance. I say that as someone who is not easily impressed at all.

i wasnt comparing post jerry stuff to jerry stuff or even saying one was better, we all know which one was better. I was just bored at i still go see a lot of live music and listen to a lot of different stuff. To me i would rather being seeing music then sitting at home. i am only 29 and 15 when jerry died so i missed a lot of stuff just due to age so its all i got
