"And PLEASE don't blame the monitors or the idea that she couldn't hear herself. Not being able to hear herself singing would actually be, for her, a blessing in disguise. I wish I had her vantage point- maybe a certain spot in the room where I couldn't hear her either, but no such luck. It amazes me when people use this crap excuse to somehow give Donna a pass on her lack of vocal, shall we say, consistency. Just shows how musically inept they are."

Dude, I thought your original post was harsh to say the least, but, the excerpt above clearly shows you are also ignorant. I have to assume you do not play in a band, otherwise you'd know that it is really difficult to sing/play well if you really cannot hear what you're putting out. Why do you think people who are deaf cannot talk very well if at all?

As for Donna as a person, she is very personable and sweet. I've met her twice and she was nothing but very kind, talkative and cool both times. Ironically, the last time I saw her, we opened for her and the Tricksters and there were monitor problems. Once they were fixed, she sang beautifully.

If by chance you do play in a band, I hope you are really great at what you do because I'd hate to see someone critique your mistakes with the same brutality you seem to like to dish out.

Do your homewrork butch! For starters, Bob Weir was asked to leave the band!
Pigpen too, actually, at the same time as Weir.

Sluggo, that was mean, but spot-on mean, I must admit.

I thought Sluggo's post was funny, I never liked her singing and thought the band was better off without her! I thought she sucked in Jerry's band too! "Sunrise" IMHO worst GD ever!
I liked Keith's playing but liked Brent much more.

The only song I like her on is the studio version of Scarlet Begonias.

Totally unrelated, I also thought John Kahn was a horrible bass player.... his solo in Simple Twist sounds like someone tapping on a microphone...thud thud. Just my opinion

flame away!

Sluuggos post would have been funny if ANY of his "points" were close to being factual.
Maybe you suck too.

I would think that, even if she did only a fraction of the drugs the rest of the band did, it would throw off her singing significantly. By the time she got there, the rest were old pros at singing and playing while out of their brains, and she was thrown right in the middle of it.

I dont think drugs had anything to do with it as she was singing with Elvis before the Dead.So it wasnt like she was a rookie or anything.
I feel the reason for the off-key stuff is just bad monitor mix or whatever.Or she wasnt hearing herself well.
She can sing and sing well.
I feel like she added way more than she took away.
She had a good run with the boys and sang well on the albums from that period.
