Been listening to this guy named Keith Jarrett. He played piano on many epic Miles Davis. I read that he plays concerts, on solo acoustic piano, for 2 solid hours-- nonstop-- ALL IMPROVISED. No performance is the same. Sound familiar?

Well, he's good. His phrasing is beautiful and his changes are amazing. He is probably the greatest pianist I have ever heard. I recommend the Vienna Concert for everyone. Just him and the piano for an hour playing all improv. Breathtaking melodies. Check it out.

wow, i didn't know he had a bunch of concerts available. A friend of mine left the Paris Concert CD with me last time he visited Turkey. I haven't listened to it for a while, but after reading this post I popped it in for a refresher. Yeah, this guys jams. He gets so into the improv that he starts moaning/wailing in the background - he doesn't have a mic, so it's real soft, but definitely audible in the background.

The first "song", or should I just call it a track, on the Paris concert is a 40-minute long improv with harmonies so rich you almost forget that it's just the piano - no bass, no drum, no vocals (except the occasional moan from Keith himself).

I'm gonna have to check out these other shows.
