anyone see that show on national geographic channel(or history) where the guy goes undercover as a hell's angel(there's another where a guy goes undercover with the mongols)? that shit was absolutely crazy. not that anything the gangs did was all that crazy, but having to give up your life for years and years. having to create an identity, pretend to take drugs without getting caught, etc. etc. at one point the leader has a gun to the cops head asking if he's a cop and fires one past his face. later they think some other gang member is the cop and are going to kill him. luckily the real cop calls and gives himself up and the member on the phone is absolutely speechless.

i always enjoy in 'the electric kool-aid acid tests' when wolfe talks about the first time the angels come out to kesey's land, take acid, and mingle with all the hippies

i didn't see the show you mentioned, but right now I'm reading the book "Hell's Angels: A strange and terrible saga" by Hunter S Thompson. HST joins the Angles around 1966 and spends some time with the gang. I'm about half-way through it, and it's been a pretty interesting read, considering that I knew very little about the Angels before.

The book was written before gonzo-style appeared, so it's doesn't have the flair of, say, fear and loathing, but it's a good work of literature none-the-less.

The Dead used the HA all the time, except it was family HA they used. Friends of Mickeys not used directly from the HA. Nothing official, you know? So The Stones decided just to approach the HA officially. And we know what happened. The Dead were understandably too scared to play, and flew off by helicopter.
Honestly though, does it matter who is to blame? Someone died tragically, and less importantly the whole music festival scene kind of died too. (to an extent)
