I'm putting together a band on the south shore too.

The guys I have found so far are not into the dead, but aren't opposed to it either, so we'll see how it goes. We're having fun jamming out things like Low Spark and Down by the River, though.
Band practices are funny things. I really try to arrive knowing my parts, or at least having a fair idea of how to play what I want. I also chafe a little when having to tell the chords to the same songs over and over. It is early yet for my band, though, and I don't think we're entirely settled on the players, so I try to take it all in stride and stay low key about it. I would love to find a Weir style player to join us, but haven't tried to find a second guitar yet. Anyone in SE Mass should feel free to PM me if this sounds like your cup of tea.
