I bought the vol. 1 and 2. The Let it Grow and the music never stops are out of this world. The first disk was better than the second in my opinion. To be honest I liked volume 1 better. The second disk on Volume 1 is unreal. The Terrapin on volume 1 blows the one on volume 2 out of the water. Also the Morning dew from that disk is one of the best I've ever heard!

Prime 77 material on that second volume. The essential difference is Keith vs. Brent considering theres only a a 2 year separation between the volumes though I havent heard it. I think i may ask for one of these for my birthday

Well everything is subjective here. My favorite time period for the dead is the early brent years (fall 79-82) so overall that may be why I liked volume 1 over volume 2. Also as a warning the second disk from dick's picks 5 is one of the most listening to disk I own. The uncle johns and estimated>other one are perfection to my ears! Both volume 1 and 2 amazing stuff. But the terrapin on volume 1 should not be missed. They go into this incredable smooth jam during lady of the fan that last a good 5 minutes before they even think about going into the "terrapin part" It's one of a kind. The dew also has a reggaeish influence to it that I've never heard from another dew. For whoever asked you can only buy them from dead.net store. Not avaliable in stores. (that I know of)

The Shakedown Street on Vol. 1 is amazing. Didn't get a chance to listen to Vol. 2 yet.

dont get me wrong, i love the early brent years too, esp 80-83. imo the band sounded so good back then especially in aud recordings. looks like i need to order this too

Can you guys post the show dates for the songs you really like? I am more likely to go find a sbd copy of a whole show and listen to it than I am to buy a compilation. I figure that if song X from X date is great, well then maybe much of the rest of the show is too...

I've only heard vol. 1 and wanted to concur about that Shakedown and Dew. Shakedown almost scared me in places. Those are some GREAT versions.

'79 was a very good year, especially given that Brent was basically new. I think it is often overlooked, but they were definitely breathing new life into a lot of songs.

I love some of the sounds Brent's using even though they (at times) sounded a bit too electronic.....seemed to fit the era well though, with disco being the all the rage back then.
