I was just watching "Festival Express," a film documenting a festival of bands, including the Dead, on a tour across Canada. On this disk is some cool Jer and Bob moments, on the train, etc. But I also noticed he sat in with Ian and Sylvia and a bunch of other folks (The Speckled Bird?) and played a borrowed mohogany tele.

As a long time tele player (among other guitars), I thought it was kinda cool.

Probably a 1968-69 all-rosewood Tele... WOW! just made the connection: Delaney Bramlett (who was on the Festival Exp tour w/ Delaney & Bonnie) had been recently given an amazing gift from GEORGE HARRISON - his 1968 Rosewood Tele as seen in the "Let It Be" film! That almost HAS to be the same guitar!

Tigerstrat, even before you posted I realized that it was a rosewood tele. My brain skipped a few fires when I was posting.

Very cool connection. I wonder if there is anyway to confirm.

The film is fun, but it ain't great (e.i. don't make the spouse spend the evening watching it with you, unless he/she is just as interested). My favorite moment (besides the music) comes when there is some "discussion" about a cop whose head was bashed in by people protesting the festival ticket prices. The very young Bobby keeps asking in earnest, "Is that worth sixteen dollars?" He's angery about the senseless violence, while others think the cops were in their traditional aggressive oppressor role. It's just a very wierd scene.

Also, The Band totally rocks!!!

Yeah thats a good scene- Them hippies are yucking it up and Bobs like Hes got a family and wheres the all the peace and love....

the movie rocks, i love The Band's part, as well as when jerry jams with joplin. Theres also the part where bob talks about going to get some whiskey I believe, and notices some tablets floating on the bottom of the bottle lol
