When it doesn't fit anywhere else

I have a question about this band. Has Jimmy Herring been in the band the whole time? I am just wondering because I want to download some shows with him playing, and I was just wondering if he is always in it. Thanks

I think he's pretty much been in every line-up that has ever played. In fact ARU is, to my ears, the only true vehicle for Herring's guitar wizardry! The combination of him, Oteil on bass and Sipe on drums is about as sick as anything gets, but you want the REAL face-melting ARU thang, download some of the original line-up of "Colonel Bruce Hampton &" ARU, including Hampton on guitar & vocals and Matt Mundy on mandolin. I'd recommend 1991-1993 as the time frame to look for.

Herring definitely was NOT with them when I saw them at a small bar in KC back in '91. It was a quartet and one of them played a mini-guitar of some kind. Had no idea who they were at the time, but they were incredible, playing on this little back patio type of setting. Bass player was insanely good.

I would highly reccomend "Mirrors of Embarrassment" as a studio Col. Bruce and ARU recording to obtain. My fav of all his stuff.

I don't know if ARU will play anymore. I do believe that ARU continued to play without Col Bruce when he "retired" and/or became too ill (90's) to continue playing for a while. I know that Fuji Mariner is another band Col Bruce was leading in the later 90s and their stuff is worth getting too.

I saw the Codetalkers about 2-3 years ago. They had Col Bruce, Jimmy, Bobby lee Rodgers, Falcon (drums)and Ted (bass)...what a SICK show that was.
Haven't seen the Col since that.

I am seeing the Codetalkers on 4/1 in Pittsburgh. Bobby lee now has a new bass and drummer with him----a bit more jazzy than previous Codetalkers stuff.

That would be the Thunderbird Lounge in Lawrenceville---great club we play at every two months. Thay've been there 3 times so far and always seem to love the place. If you're there Steve, you'll have to find me and say HIGH!
