Yeah, Ryan wasn't great with Phil. I do have a dvd of a show they played together where Ryan plays guitar for some dead songs and it's just the two of them in a bar in Colorado. Quality is pretty poor, but it's cool to see.
I just saw him at a beautiful theatre in Salem, Oregon and he put on a great show. Played two full sets, rocked out and it was very good. He came off a bit pretentious when he spoke to the audience, but his songs are a lot of fun. Rumor I heard was that he wanted Phil to play more of his stuff and Phil just laughed him off, so he broke it off. He was a Deadhead from way back.
