Hopefully you guys hung in there and saw the webcast... started around 8:20PST or so I reckon.

This isn't so much a review as a brief rant/freakout/impression:

Set I: so-so ensemble play but VERY psyched to see both KARAN and SLESS joining the fray! I love the extended chorus on Half Step!! Come Together -how shall I put this?- did NOT come together. Very lame set closer!! Aarrrgh. HSF II opener?

Set II: acoustic- sounds like the musicians are actually listening to each other! Deep Elem was highlight for me- lowlight: slow acoustic Deal. I don't think I'm really down with the whole Jackie Greene thing. No 3rd guitar, please... he was nice on B3 and mando. 1st time I've ever seen Phil on an upright bass- he seemed to get ansy for his Modulus after awhile.

Set III: China Cat opens prettily sloppily (and was Karan playing the "Bobby" riff?) but EXPLODES in the outro jam!!! Barry SMOKED on the last break of Eyes!!! Absolutely wailin 3rd set; everyone in their comfort zone. Tasty, TASTEFUL keys from Molitz, sounded SO much like Keith at times. Bring on summer tour! Overall, this show was MUCH better than the ultra-busy Herring/Haynes/Baracco/Chimenti line-up of TOO/TD circa 2004.

I'M ROLLED AND READY TO FIRE UP!!!

Ah man, I was just talking with a friend the other day and we were wondering who would play guitar . . . . I suggested MK and it came true!

Anyone know where I can find a recording?

Of course TS....
I was able to see the first two sets then iClips went belly up on me on the third set..... GRRRRR...

I'll try again tonight, I agree with the review. I did not have that much of a "Critical" ear as I was just glad to see those faces together again.

Thanks for the "Good" heads up.
PEACE,
Phil

TS

I've seen ratdog more than a few times, and yes Karen usually plays the Bobby intro riff in Chinacat...humorous in someways.

Well, I enjoyed it...a LOT. I really thought that it would be way sloppier than it was. Sure there were moments of not-togetherness, but overall, I thought they pulled it of magnificently (is that a word?!).

I really liked Jackie Greene. I thought he brought a good freshness to the sound and, at times, I thought he really pushed the band a bit...he threw Weir about 4-5 solos, by my count!

TS, I was always a fan of a slow, bluesy "Deal." Used to love those old versions from '73-'74 where there's good room for interplay during the verses. I thought the acoustic set was good...Deep Elem definitely the best of the 4 tunes, IMO.

I did enjoy the "Come Together" closer, too - slow, spacey, pretty darn good, I thought. I think it was more of a message thing than a great musical call for set closer....which is fine by me.

Wished for the Help On The Way > Slipknot!, but instead, we got the China Cat. I agree...not very tight, but the outtro jam is where things got GREAT. Karan played really well, Sless is a monster, Molitz sounded really nice - defnitely tinges of Keith (would rather hear someone crush some Brent on a B-3, but I'll take what I can get) and Molo is a freak! Mickey looked like he was havin' a lot of fun back there - would have liked to have seen him on a kit more, but again...I'll take what I can get.

Missed Billy. REALLY missed Jerry. Great show, IMO...I really enjoyed it.

Did you see Bobby give me the signal to "stay on the one" on the 1st Minglewood verse?!...
Cool!
[home alone and jammin' along]

Totally cool to see Barry on steel on MHUT and BEW.
