When it doesn't fit anywhere else

Hey everyone. My band had a last-minute gig at Prospector's Hall in Dahlonega, GA. This place is essentially a metal shack with a concrete floor. Totally funky place!

The band is me, Cassidy Wall, on guitar and lead vocals, my brother Hayden, on drums and vocals, and our new bass player, Curtis Vickers.

I apologize for the vocals being so bad. I was sick.

Any comments appreciated!

Hey 'Cid,
Good to hear from a brother here in the SE, I'm in Birmingham. Next time a gig pops up on you, post it or send an IM to me, would love to check it out.

I'll check the Vids when I get to the Casa.... The internet police here at the "Saltmine" will not allow streaming of anykind....
PEACE,
Phil

Well, I think you guys need a lot more practice, but it looks as though you're on the right track. Keep listening to yourself & critiquing your own playing, as well as your band members. Looks as though your bassist is still pretty green. Actually, I can safely say that about everyone in the band, but don't take that as a bad thing - we were all there once. Plus, who the fuck am I to say anyways? Fuck me! Keep doing what you're doing, but my advice would be: if you're going to continue to play out, you need to get better (as we ALL do :o ). I think I remember you saying you guys were still in high school, so that's pretty good - you've got plenty of time to do just that. The concepts are good but you really need to polish off your playing (as an individual and a band) and clean it up a little - get everybody even closer together and more on the same page. Some of it was hard to listen to, and not because you were sick or the recording is what it is. Sometimes your parts didn't always line up with the drummers, or vice-versa. Again, don't take any of this in a negative way, but I figured if I was going to respond, it was going to be honestly and not bullshit you with fluff. Your rhythm playing at times seemed rushed, but your leads were going in the right direction and you seem to have some good riffs and ideas down, so build on those strong points and keep putting in the practice time to improve the rest of your game (especially playing along to bootlegs & the like, but remember not to play just the Dead). Not sure if your guitar was out of tune or just maybe you were hitting sour notes on some stuff, but then again it could be me. The best part is that you guys seem to be having fun while playing, and that's first and foremost. Now comes the easy part! Gelling! Actually, that can also be the hard part, but hey, if you guys want it enough it'll happen. I'm sure you've looked for a keys player or a another guitarist, but keep searching, it'll help fill out your sound.

Keep rockin' in the free world!

And let's hear some more stuff when you get around to it!

Thanks shakedown for the constructive criticism. We actually got this gig booked the night before we played so there wasn't much time to think it out. But, I'm not making excuses, and there are a lot of things that need to be worked on. And my guitar was out of tune in some places, lol. But thanks for viewing!

So what are some other songs that you guys played that night? Setlist?

We were the first of 3 bands to play and played one full set.

Rockin' in the Free World
Mr. Spaceman (Byrds)
Wang Dang Doodle
The Dream (original)
NIB (Black Sabbath)
Eyes of the World
Chalkdust Torture

Then, after the other two bands were done we played a small jam for whoever was left:

Whiteboy Groove (original)>
Black Hurricane (original)>
The Weight>
Black Hurricane

Fuck em all. 5 stars for having the balls to play a 17 min. eyes as a trio, live.

You're young man. Keep on keepin' on.

Thank you man. I don't think eyes is that hard to play as a trio, really. Just some parts, haha.
