C ya there bro, go to columbus too! What can be said about DSO... a lot of people don't like that their a cover band, but hell, i havn't really seen anyone lately who has blown me away live except for them. They didn't write the songs, but their dedication to each and every song is just incredible. People can keep complaining about how their just a cover band, but you know what, I WOULD RATHER HAVE A COVER BAND KEEPING THE SPIRIT OF THE DEAD GOING THAN HEARING NO DEAD AT ALL! Lighten up you know what i mean? Just DANCE DANCE DANCE!!!!
ya im going to see them tonight in milwaukee, tom. chicago.. and sat is sold out :( but thats ok because i have connections in the dso family and i got my tickets anyways and thursday in madison!!!!

I've seen them a handful of times and think they are, what they are, a group a fantastically impressive and talented musicians who faithfully recreate the sound of the dead.
I can't imagine listening to or trading their recordings. But for a night out it's great. If I was a bit younger and still in tour mode looking for that community scene i probably would really get into them. There does seem to be a bit of that going on at the shows.
Anything that keeps what little bit of a "scene" alive is all good in my book.

I go and see them whenever they come around. Just a great time. However if I had to choose between dead related bands I would be seeing the Tricksters (with donna or not) or Rat-dog before DSO. I got to see Donna and the tricksters at a small club with no more than 50 folks about 3 months ago and it was ridiculously great!
Okay kids, here I go again , DSO ... incredible musicians ... Barraco is awesome and Rob Eaton is one of the most talented players alive in my opinion, but I am over it, have moved on, saw Jerry and the boys 300 plus times ... lost count a long time ago, saw DSO several times in recent years and the last time just didn;t do it for me ...I go out and see ALOT of live music and living here in Colorado we get everybody ... DSO just charges to much for tickets to see a cover band, if I want my Grateful Dead fix I check out the Pranksters for free and they bring it !!!!!!!! If I am gonna spend 30 bucks on a show it's gonna be Yonder Mountain String Band, they bring INCREDIBLE energy every night !!!!!! Hell I got into the first night of their New Years run for 20 bucks !!!!

I am going to see them when they make their trip down to Atlanta then follow them down to Big Cypress for Langerado.

I understand the feelings about tix prices, but I'm sure most of you know that it's really a reflection of their growth, requiring more staff/crew, etc. Scott Larned once told me about how they never thought it would grow to be anything like this. They've been awfully kind to me, my family and my band(s) over the years and even though I haven't had to pay to see them in 9 years, I would in a second if I had to. Gotta love those guys!
usually the tickets arent more than twenty five bucks for variety playhouse (atlanta), thats pretty much the average for that venue. Ive seen them the past couple times they have come through and each times its gotten better. eaton is on point, and their bassist cracks me up while hes playin haha

The SPIRIT of the Dead, IMO, is the moment. Re-creating the moment, is very much UNlike the Dead. So, again - they are AMAZING at what they do, but is very much not in the SPIRIT of the GD, but their music IS the GD. The trading of DSO tapes, IMO, is inane. It makes NO sense. As good as they are (again, in MY opinion), I'd rather listen to the GRATEFUL DEAD's version of 10/9/89, rather than DSO's version of 10/9/89. AND, guess what the GD's ticket prices were to the infamous Warlocks shows of 89? $25 for GA seats.
I play in a GD COVER band. You can see US for $5. Now, we're not as tight as DSO. We're good, IMO, but maybe not as good as musicians as they are. We don't recreate the moment and that is not our intention. OUR intention is to rehearse the structure of the songs and go out there and JAM, baby. Take the songs & play 'em like WE play 'em. It'd be very interesting to hear DSO play non GD stuff...just play.
I don't know their names, so excuse my ignorance. Their Weir (who even LOOKS a lot like a young Bobby) does not add "his own flavor" as one person put it. Every single, solitary lick that I saw him play came from Bob Weir's arsenal. I've studied Bob Weir for a long, long time. So has their guy.
Again, I'm not taking away ANYTHING from DSO...they are phenomenal at RECREATING the experience. BUT, the true experience of "Without A Net" is lost, IMO.

Yeah- Im more into the home grown bands you see here.I dont need that sense of community anymore-the lot,the hippie chicks,the partying,etc.Getting old I guess.
The DSO rocks for sure-I'd just rather find some Heads with a decent band at some bar some where and enjoy.The DIY attitude on R U Kind is amazing.Dudes with modded mods on their gits and pedals....

Leo came to atlanta this past holiday season and did a concert entirely of christmas music, it was pretty insane. cosmic charlie is a good gd cover band as well, but they do their own way in a way hah. my roommate saw them in athens this past weekend.
