Has anyone ever heard of "The Grateful Dead - Watkins Glen, NY, July 28, 1973"? I was poking around Wikipedia and I came across this in the article under Watkins Glen Summer Jam, It was in the discography section. As far as I know there never was a "official" release of the ANY of the music from Watkins Glen, not from The Band, Allman Bros., or The Dead.

never heard of it, but it sounds great. If this box existed I'd buy it for sure some time. These are are 3 of my favorite bands =), and 73 is a great year for all of them...mmhmhm 6 cds, that would be nice
I just found this:

The Band - Live at Watkins Glen (Audio-CD, released 1995). This release is mostly comprised of studio takes with overdubbed audience sounds.

it's also on wikipedia....damn it. a live album made with studio recordings and overdubbed audience so that it sounds like a live gig? Do I understand that right? I hope not...

My buddy burned it for me.
I thought it was a bootleg 'cause my Cds came with art work.Maybe posters from the show.Old timey type western -ish Cowboy shots.I think the Dead part is 4 cds long.Its been years since I listened to it.
Maybe its an official release thats out of print.

Yes - there was a Watkins Glen show in '73. The best part of the show was not the actual show, but the soundcheck which can be downloaded. If you can, definitely get a copy. It's amazing!

Are you sure it was Watkins Glen and not 6/10/73 at RFK Stadium? It's a MONSTER show with ABB and Merl Saunders sitting in for the 3rd set:

technically, i was there too. although i was 6 months old..... Hippie parents..... imagine my dad having the nerve to give me the following speech when i was 17. "There is more to life than getting laid, smoking weed and jerry garcia"!!! I love it.

Yup, you understand that correctly. Actually it's not studio recordings but taken from the 7/31-8/1 shows at the RFK Stadium.

wow i have so much music that i've not even gotten a chance to listen to.. thats got to be the sweetest soundcheck i've ever heard

I was there.

Friday night, all of Saturday, and left on Sunday.

The soundcheck definitely was cool. I thought they were playing Dark Star, The Other One, and the change up between China Cat and Rider when they did the Jam. Unearthly, as in from another planet.

I've tried to learn the Jam. I get about 10 minutes into it and Garcia just slips away from me. Been working on it for about two years now, when I get focused, then I go try something easier and have trouble coming back to it. If you could play Garcia's part in the Jam, you would learn a lot about his style. There are a slew of his trademark techniques in the Jam, all nicely tied together.

And the end of the Jam is Weir heading off playing chords C to A, or D to B, one or the other, back and forth, which is a key modulation that actually makes for a nice segway out of the Jam, or any jam.

The Dead didn't play that well on Saturday, their main day. They got a poor slot in the lineup, starting at Noon as the first act. The boys probably stayed up too late the night before and wern't quite with it. Because of their not so good performance, they refused to release any rights to record company profiteers. At least that's what I heard.

Best concert I ever went to and it has the record for most attendance for a rock concert to this day.

The Band have a commercial CD out of their set here. It's pretty lackluster. They were essentailly slowing way down by then and not playing a lot of shows anymore by then and were lured to the gig with money, so the story goes I read.
