My 08 resolution is to start to get down some Jerry like runs. What are the patterns etc that he used? Where and when to use them are also of interest to me.

My musical goal for 08 has already started. I want to get my band (which is really more like a bunch of old friends that jam together for 3 or 4 hours just once a week) back into a tight gigging band like we use to be. Started yesterday by buying a 8 track digital recorder and a large dry erase board (to write chord changes on) and really rehersed and learned two new songs (something we haven't done in about 3 years) It was awsome and even some of our random friends that come by to hang out and listen thought we sounded great. Strange what a little focus can do. Anyway happy new year. Sould be an awsome 200grate.

Yeah musically I guess I want to get some more Jerry like riffs down. It seems that when I listen I can realize what is going on, and if I had the time to sit down and tab something out Im sure that I would be able to do it but . . . when it comes to playing it its really another story. My biggest observation . . . lots of chromatics in between positions and scales. I have a tendency to sometimes do chromatics for the sake of doing chromatics.

but in general my resolution is to go back to school! :x

I would like to learn some more of Jerry's Banjo lick's.

Unfortunatley for me though the olny recording's I have are Old and In the Way CD's. But Jerry's said in one of his interview's that when he played with O&ITW his licks and chops wern't as strong as they were back in the mid 60's. So I'm gonna go backwards I guess, start with his old and in the way licks and fills and then try and find any older stuff of his banjo playing.

Happy New year everyone.

ditto on the cigaretts.. but my musical goal is to actually sit down and practice every day instead of getting high, popping in a show and jamming for three hours. =)

Speaking of which, im about to go do just that... go figure ;)

jamming is great practice. the first thing i do when i learn new theory is to work on fingerings a little and then use it in a jam.

my new years resolution is to stop playing games on my ipod during physics and ap european history and to start paying attention again. so far so good

1. wear seatbelt
2. stop or greatly reduce my opiate use (beginning with at least 2 weeks of absolutely none)
3. stay out of legal trouble

so far so good on all three

my resolution for guitar was to actually start helping people on this site. i usually just ask for help but i'd like to be able to share some knowledge with people.

the resolution gave me an idea, alot of aspiring bassists (namely the one in my band) like phil lesh but cant make heads or tails of what he's playing because they cant learn by ear or are too new to playing to be able to play anywhere near the level of phil.

i was wondering if anyone would like to have a bass tabs section on this site, and if we did make it if anyone would like to help figure out bass lines. i know it's hard to summarize what phils doing in tab form, because he's always doing something different, but if we could get some general feels to songs or common riffs i know it'd help some bassists out
