In doing "the due dilligence search thang", I came across this thread... so now I gotta revive it.

My group's done a lot of simple 2 track stereo recording of gigs and practices to HD using M-audio's MobilePre, but we want to take it to another level... but not quite to the point where we are investing in studio time. Basically, we want to record live to HD, but with individual editable instrument/vocal tracks. I just got a MacBook Pro, and imagine GB can handle the bare-bones stuff we want to do, but I gather I'll need a firewire connection for up to 8 (really only need 6) tracks. I imagine we need something like this:

But, I could be wrong and looking at a way too sophisticated a piece of equipment? So... help! Anyone have any suggestions?
