99 out of 100 electric guitarist have played the Hey Joe riff at some time or another and his version of Watchtower.Staying power.
All the cover bands thru the years you see at bars and partys,all cover Jimi.Not to mention all the real bands that have done his stuff.
I mean come on.
Maybe I shouldnt have said he was the most inventive guy Ever in rock.
Will you at least give him top 5?
Maybe you think hes overexposed and thats why you're down on him.

Dont get me wrong he sure as hell is famous for what he's done and very respected as well. As for top 5 I mean I guess I could but thats only because I only know so many guitarists. Until ive listened to all thats out there I couldnt say for sure but yeah Ill give ya the top 5 lol. And good argument btw haha. My friend saw this post and was like "how can you get so upset over somethin like this on the internet no less" But Im not gettin upset at all. I just like to argue haha.

Hes a monster all right.
HUGE influence on the guitar world.
BUT I put him with Les Paul-not in the rock world.
My thing about Jimi was hes all about ROCK.
Big in the electric guitar world.
Chet gives Jimi a run for the money for sure.

Chet is one of the Greats of all time.

jimi hendrix is the reason i play guitar. i first heard him in around 75 and i was blown away. hes an extremely influential guitar player.

another guitarist who was extremely influential that no one has mentioned is eddie van halen...he was doing things that no one else was doing. he was at the forefront of a genre...shred. that man sold alot of guitars and magazines

jerry garcia pretty much is the father of the jam band and to me is very influential. his interpretations of country/roots type music and incorporating different genres (jazz,blues,rock,country,bluegrass) into one unique sound will live on for a long long time.


when you post "favorite" guitarists then it becomes very subjective but truly innovative musicians are extremely rare. when you cant say...well if it wasnt for "X" then there would have been no "Y" then you have a true innovator.

i also know that the three guitarist i mentioned as being very influential had influences themselves as everyone does but i think they did something so unique that they totally transcended their influences.

thank you for mentioning eddie. i've been on a big funkadelic kick lately and he is one of the most emotive guitarists ever. he laid a lot of groundwork for the whole jam/hendrix-influence rock/funk platform for live musicians. maggot brain is maybe my favorite piece of guitar music
