When I was living in NC, I had a buddy who really liked Tool. So I listened to a lot of it. The only song I liked was 46 and 2. Very cool bass line to that song.

Other than that, just not my thing. I'm not a big fan of "angry music" like that. But that one song is quite good.

I dont know much of them but theyre pretty good. The only song name I can remember that I like is Schism. Btw Im into the angry music as well haha. But I wouldnt really consider this angry music. When I think angry I think of Killswitch Engage and God Forbid and so on.

They are cool in my book. I'm not really into them but my wife likes them a lot. A lot of their songs sound the same to me but then my wife points out the a lot of GD sounds the same to her so....whatever floats your boat I guess. My wife tends to like a lot angry music, which I never understood. I can see being young and angry and getting into it, but doesn't that schtick grow old after a while? I always ask her "So when is Trent Reznor (of Nine Inch Nails) gonna get over all his negative bullshit and write a happy song?"

That's why I like the "Cure" they could write a sad tune and make it sound happy.

Seen them 2x live pretty much the same show repeated.
Never listen to this kind of music really.
Drummer has some serious skill
Maynard as twisted as he is pretty good.
Look for the u tube clip of Maynard(however you spell it My bad)wrestling with a fan.Good stuff.
Guitars and bass are tuned low and so distorted I cant imagine what they play on a regular Strat.
They did their own cartoons and stuff.That was cool too.
I'll see anything live.Its like a whole other world.The kids are way out there.

Just when I think she has sunk to a new low she turns me on to some good stuff,like that singer whose name escapes me.He drowned in the Mississippi and tuned his guitar cool and what a voice.

Tenn Jedi, I think you are speaking of Jeff Buckley. I really like him as well, my mom somehow had a cd of his that she never listened to and I borrowed it when I moved away to college and it just keeps growing on me. "My Sweetheart, the Drunk" is the disc and its outtakes from the album he was recording when he died... went swimming in the steel toe boots... in any case, he's got a great voice and is pretty good on guitar so everyone should check him out if you haven't heard before. His back up band is quite skilled as well.

Tool is alright, their music is pretty simple and repetative but they can build it up pretty well. Just kind of freaks me out sometimes with the wierd sound effects and the wierd ass lyrics. I kind of like Lateralus, Third Eye, Schism... just in small doses.

First of all its not about it being angry. Its about the music! I listen to hardcore metal here and there and its not cuz im feeling angry or crazy. I love the fast paced guitar riffs and double bass. But anyways if your asking how doesnt that "shtick" grow old. Why dont you ask yourself the same question about the Grateful Dead. Because its good music!!! I believe thats all that needs saying here

yeah i never even heard tool but then i talked to this guy a lot, and all he talked about was tool, and all i talked about was umphreys. so we burned each other some discs.

i have to say that their stuff with the original bassist isnt that great, but lateralus and 10,000 days are really good.

i actually dont find it that angry(mostly), just heavy.

the song 10000 days just blew my mind when i heard it. it builds so well through the whole song.

and their drummer is crazy.

To you maybe. Not to the band and probably not to a good portion of the audience. With that said of course there are the occasional band that doesnt care for the musical aspect of the band so much as the image. Therefore thats all they go for is angry, negative music. But for the most part id be willin to bet they just wanna make music that comes naturally to them. Once in a while I give it a shot at playing some of that stuff and sometimes I can really feel it and play pretty good to it. Hardcore music helps me when the Dead start gettin to be too much. Not really a hard band but I started listenin to Rush lately and they are pretty damn good! All 3 members have amazing talent. Tom Sawyer and YYZ are great songs. Oh and so is Closer to the Heart. And if you want a good hardcore band with some weird stuff, some very mellow, even a reggae jam or two. Then check out 54 Vision.

Rush is probably my favorite band next to the GD. I saw them this past Summer and the rocked the place for 3 hrs. That was my 7th Rush show in 25 yrs. and I think they are at the top of their game.

i love rush as well but after a while geddy lee's voice can really get to me.

as for tool at this point i had forgotten there are bands other than the dead and phish. i remember someone from the band had this great quote about emo music being terrible music made by roofie slipping perverts. dont remember it exactly but they earn major points with me for that
