I have Vantage semi hollowbody guitar that has what I call a sticky neck. What I mean by that when I am moving around the neck the back of it sort of sticks to my palm.

A good example would be like when you have a pool cue that stick to the bridge you make with your hand. Then talc fixes it.

What do you guys do to solve that issue on the guitar? I have polished it and that didnt help and cleaned it with a damp cloth too.

Is there some product out there I should use or just keep playing and it will go away?

Don't polish it! That only builds up layers of polish to get sticky. A lot of players I know actually prefer their neck with no finish at all. But, wiping it down after each use should keep it clean. I don't know what wuould be best to remove residue that is on there.. maybe diluted mineral spirits? I'd defer to any of the woodworkers out there.

there are products for the strings like fast fret. It is like oil for the strings put on an applicator. I use it sometimes and it is good.

But my stickiness is the back of the neck.

Finger Ease, and you wouldn't want to put that on the neck either, just the strings.

never had this problem but it would seem to me that sanding it with a fine grit sand paper would help. You can always put another clear coat over it. As long as your fairly gentle it shouldnt change color at all because the stain penitrates the wood

I never used to have to worry about cleaning my neck, until I switched to a bass with that had the back of the neck painted. It seems to get "sticky" really quick.

To counter this I've found that washing your hands before playing and wiping your neck down after will pretty much solve the problem. My bass came with one of those guitar polishing rags, but if you dont have one you can pick one up at any guitar store for less than 3 bucks. Just keep it in the case so that you'll see it every time you put your guitar away and, hence, wont forget to use it. Sweat builds on up guitar necks fast, makes them stick. Washing your hands to remove any excess and wiping it down after to remove any that comes from playing will keep your neck smooth and stick free.

nah that stuff "finger ease" does go on the back of the neck too....the tone finger ease in the white bottle, it is string lubricant but you take a quick spray on the back of the neck also to lube it up...

also keep your palm off the neck and lighten up your touch, that would help it also, and help your speed and efficiency

Sure you could. I tried it after seeing SRV use it but couldn't stand it on the neck. Felt like... nevermind.

I haven't used it in over 15 years, and then only when my calouses weren't in decent shape. What's the idea, reduces string squeak?

yeah i use it a couple times on new strings it helps in a few areas...and after u spray it on the back wipe it in good...it just gives it a smooth shimmer, like a glossy finish

I have a custom Jerry-esque Strat/Wolf with a Warmoth maple neck (ebony board) and I had them ship it to me unfinished as I wondered what it would feel like. It is by far and away the best feeling neck of all my guitars as it is absolutely smooth as silk all the time, with sweat, without sweat, no matter what.

The point is if you know you aren't going to sell this guitar, take the finish off of the back of the neck. Nothing like the feeling of unfinished wood.

I use just alittle bit of furniture polish and it doesn't seem to build up.
