what are some good terrapins? i love this song and only have the closing of winterland and so many roads versions

2-26-77, the first time they played terrapin, and of all the versions i've heard, i think its the best one. its just amazing, a little faster than most, its real good

ive always rele liked the version on dozin' at the knick, it was the first one i evr heard and still one of my favorites, there is also a damn good one on the view from the vault 4 dvd some show at oakland in 87 i believe, cant remember the date

something pretty cool, last night as i was reading "A Long Strange Trip", it got to feb. 77 and talked about that first playing of terrapin, robert hunter said it was the closest he'd ever thought the dead had come to reaching that divine level

One of my personal favs is from the Hult Center, Eugene, OR, fall of 83.

Terrapin melts into the "into drums" jam, but then Jerry brings it back into a reprise.

if i was put up against a wall with a gun to my head and forced to pick a favorite grateful dead song. Terrapin would probably be the one. I highly recomend checking out 3-24-87. The infamous jam at the end just goes on and on and on. That terrapin changed a lot of lives that night. It's that powerful. Need a good system to truly get it. I suggest an aud recording as well.

I dig that 3-24-87 one also, I've seen video of that show and during the "Terrapin" coda Jerry and Bob are standing side by side in rock star poses just hammering away on their axes and you hear the crowd just go insane. That shows got some special moments....Brents vocal intro into "Dear Mr. Fantasy" gives me chills it's so perfect.

Is there such thing as a "bad" Terrapin?

Don't believe I've ever heard one that struck me as such.

I agree with Floyd as well, the 'Swing' 2-26-'77. And also with the Hult center one in '83 from ebick. There may be more of a concensus on this this because of the relative rarity?

IMHO, there's a lot of great Terrapins but I'm partial to ones just before Brent dies that go into very nice "jams" before Drumz.
