Aside from some of the issues I had with many of the other attendees.....I'd like to have a conversation with Mr. Weir.

Let's forget for a moment about the overgrown B&M which some interpret as an attempt to physically morph into Jerry, see if you can identify a pattern here....

Now, I know that it is not always the case that he doesn't play any of his GD songs, but this seems to have gotten worse and worse over the years.

Yeah, but Ed...he's been playing his stuff w/ the Dead for 30 years and with Ratdog for the last 12. Maybe he's a little bored with his stuff and has found new life for himself in some of Jer's songs. I mean, he really only started playing Jerry songs a few years ago, so if you take a look at the timeline here....Ratdog has defintely gotten more popular over these last few years....I'm not saying this is why, but maybe Bob's thinking is that some of it is because he's added so many Jerry songs over these last few years, and he's thinking "hey, if the folks want to come out and here me play that stuff, well then that's what I'll do". Not to mention if he only played his stuff, it would be fairly limiting material. Playing Jerry's tunes may double his catalogue.

I dunno, just a thought. But like you said, he doesn't always play that many Jerry songs, just take a look at the setlists. Either way, in my mind, it's all GD material anyways, and I
m fine with that.

I hear what you are saying about his setlist as well. I can see the allure of those songs to Bob though. Think about all the times he played them with the boys. Don't you ever 'remember' a song that you had not played in a while? It brings something back to you, maybe that is what he doing.
He was asked about bringing out all those Dead songs and said...“I got lonesome for them,” he said.

All good points, and I'm not against (completely or partially) him playing anything from the GD catalog. I just think he should keep it a bit more mixed up. As I said, it really seems to have become an obsession.

I will say this, however. A few of the tunes, specifically Loser and Althea, he has really put a very different feel to.

Well I havent seen Bob in about a year so I cant really say. Last February, it was probably half Dead and half his own. This contrasts to the year before were it was overwhelmingly Bob. Now im fine with either situation really but id like to hear his take on all the Jer songs. I think it would be pretty cool.

I heard Loser in Boston over the summer and really liked his rendition of it, thought it was spectacular. Different, but you know, I liked that. It's nice to hear how he was able to reinterperet it after so many years.

i don't think it's a conscious decision to play jerry songs. imo there really is no difference between his songs and jerry's songs now, they're both his children. He played em both for over 30 years, and he just picks his set list by what SONG he wants to play, not him wanting to play lots of jerr ones.

First dead realatedshow for me was Ratdog on my birthday 3 years ago. I had barely listened to any Dead, but Bobby played this awesome version of Scarlet Begonias, or maybe it was just awesome cause it was the first time I had heard the song . That really got me hooked though, so I guess I'm down with Bobby playing Jerry tunes.

I agree, Ed. I go to RD to hear some awesome Bobby tunes but the sets are too filled with Jerry tunes.

You'd think after 30+ years of alternating Jerry song, Bobby song, he would at least have kept it balanced.

It actually pissed me off last time in hindsight that I haven't heard some Bobby jems in quite some time.

I like when he resurrects a Jerry song that they shelved for a good portion of time though...

Obsession??? It's an obsession but it's pleasing!

its because steve kimock is limited to the songs he knows...more jerry tunes than bob

up until this tour it was rarely more jerry tunes than bob....more bob tunes a few covers and a few ratdog originals

besides who do u want to hear do these tunes??
no one??? joan osborn??hahah...phil??lol he sucks at singing and his band is not tight

its a privelage to still hear jerry tunes played well
