I don't hunt. Just not into it. Don't preach against those that do either as long as they eat/use what they kill.

Question for the hunters. Do bear hunters eat the meat or do it for the trophy and thrill? I like bears.

i don't live around bears, but my guess is that most bear hunters skin the animal and leave it. this is a douche move on their part. i don't think i'd ever hunt bear. from what i've heard about grizzly hunting in alaska they shoot it, skin it, and leave because they "SAY" they don't want to be around when other bears show up for the carcass. but i don't know for sure. maybe some people eat it. i doubt it taste good so why would you shoot it?

I worked at a slauterhouse for years and have cut and packaged bear meat. It would be ridiculous to waste all that food. On the other hand, in my time at the slauterhouse I mostly spent the day killing (with a .22 rifle to the head), bleeding, skinning, then gutting hogs and beef. Maybe a dozen or so a day. The killing really got to me after a while. So many at a time. Sometimes the bullet wouldn't penetrate the 2 inch thick skull on the first shot. That was the worst. Gave me nightmares. But on the issue of hunting, I'm no hunter but have been known to shoot (and eat) beasts that walk out in front of me. Not for kicks, but free good food.

But hunting is part of this earth, part of nature, so if you got a problem with that, you gotta answer to the earth & Mother Nature, and not any of us here. But I'm not so much into hunting for the sport of it, I find it rather useless and a little selfish. If you're using the meat or other parts of the animal, well that's what we're supposed to be doing as humans, but if you're just shooting the damn animal to have a rack on the wall or stuff it, then I don't really see the purpose of doing so.

I'm not hunter nor do I know their lingo but as I've understood it there are different types of hunters and that it's distinguished by a preceding word:
Game Hunter - food & hide
Trophy Hunter - head on wall & hide

I've heard many who are trophy like to drop that off their title because of negative connotation it has - and deserves.

It's kinda like stem cell research - it's been going on for years, gov't funding & delivers proven results - medically accepted. But 'embryonic' stem cell research, that is the real debate and that key word is mostly dropped.

I was born and raised in the Upper Peninsula where hunting is just a part of life (as well as many other areas). I grew up hunting with my dad since I was five, as well as my other siblings. When it was my time to go out and hunt by myself I was never able to shout a deer.

When I went away to college I became a vegetarian and started turning on my dad because I believed that hunting was bad (killing animals and all that jazz). I grew up and realized that it's all part of the circle. My dad hunted, not for the fun of killing, but because it fed us during the winter months. Without him providing venison it would've been very hard for us to get by.

I may not eat meat, or hunt, but I hold no prejudice against people that do. Our county is overpopulated with deer that causes a lot of car accidences every year.

Go hunt, toke a little, and enjoy being in complete silence surrounded by nature!

here's a good story involving the types of hunters i don't agree with.

it was my cousin's bachelor party and it started mid day at my grandpa's farm. the event. a barrel and trap shooting. well a contest started up. about 30 guys lined up playing knock out. a clay goes up and if the first guy misses it he can be knocked out by the next guy. well none of these guys would ever guess the bearded, pony-tailed, hippie would win the contest twice and walk away with 40 bucks. that was great. anyways once the beer began disappearing people started getting rowdy. shooting random shit, etc. so my dad and i took off. these were the guys who exemplified the macho, gun toting, trophy hunting to make up for a lack of any true manhood, idiots who make all hunters look bad. i'm glad i left, but we hooked up again later and drove a busload around the county, got sloshed, and celebrated the badgers national hockey title
