Been hunting since I was 5 years old. My dad took me all the time...fishing too..
I have shot at least a dozen deer, hundreds of dove, couple of hundred ducks and quail...a few mountain pigeons and a couple of geese...
hunting with my father taught me a great love of the outdoors and the mountains....I took my first 100 mile backpacking trip in the Sierra's with him when I was 11........backpacked the whole John Muir trail from Yosemite to Mt Whitney one summer...23 days of hiking and around 230 miles...ate 1 hit of acid every day of the hike and had a ball....smoked a little too...
Saw my first dead show in may of 74 in Santa Barbara and my last show was in Feb of 95....
I think hunting is a very good thing ...I advocate eating what you kill.....It is a form of conservation and yes you better vote to keep the 2nd amendment free and clear from people like Hillary...guns don't kill people ....I think video games teach a bad message about unreality....
I have at least three thousand rounds of various ammo in my gun safe with an assortment of shotguns rifles and pistols....I am a law abiding hardworking person who may drink a little too much or hit the hookak now and then...and try to keep learning the guitar..
I think that guns and the great outdoors are to be enjoyed and RESPECTED by everyone...if you don't agree what will you do when Big Brother comes knocking on your door or worse gangs or other criminals and you can't protect yourself or the POLICE won't or can't....it's only a matter of time if you support the anti gun movement and people like Diane Feinstein, Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer or Hillary.....their intentions are fine in a Utopian Society but I think most of you will agree that we don't have one and never will...

Sorry my first 100 mile trip was when I was 11...I was 28 when I did the whole Muir trail....

Frankielee...I lived in Meyers for 10 years....76 to 86...God's Country...I truly believe the Sierra's are the most beautiful mountains in the world....sorry to you Rocky Mountain Way folks...I've skied all over Colorado and Utah and been on top of Mt. Blanc in France and skied down that glacier nothing comes close in the total package and beauty...look out I am being polictically incorrect again..........

i've fished and hunted since i was a little kid. growing up on the mississippi river allows for many great opportunities to do various outdoor activities including deer hunting(gun and bow), squirrel hunting, rabbit hunting, turkey hunting, duck hunting, fishing, etc. etc. i love hunting because i get to see my dad and love being outside. i've grown up to abide by all regulations and learn a deep respect for the wild things in our world. a great life experience is to kill you first deer, gut it, clean it, cut it up, and eat it. in fact i just ate some venison tenderloins about 10 minutes ago. best meat in the world!!! i feel that hunting has connected me to our natural world far more than any poster toting peta or environmental group person can be. not that there's anything wrong with their trip, but i feel many people often have no idea or connection to what they're dealing with. i love being a quasi-hippie/deadhead/musician/redneck hunting/libertarian because i can relate to and argue with people from all sorts of perspectives.
i will say i know and have known many hunters/fisherman who feel it is a competition as if shooting a big buck makes you a man(of course i have no problem shooting one, i have 2 head mounted monsters) they enjoy going out and shooting pigeons or racoons for no other reason than to shoot something. that shit is weak. i hate bass tournaments. rich pricks coming from the city, zooming through back sloughs with way too much motor, having no respect for others, and "releasing" their fish when studies show almost all tournament released fish die. how bout you keep what you catch or donate it to a shelter. in fact my experiences with a-hole bass fishermen can be applied for any trophy hunter/fisherman. to them, its not about the experience, the day in the woods, the nights with yours family, or the connection to nature. for them its getting a rise out of killing something, proving their manlier than thou, and being an all around douche.

sorry, i've just had many debates with friends/aquaintences who relate to me(music,outlook,personal choices), but have different backgrounds(dull suburban)and think they're open minded liberals, but often have no knowledge of things they haven't experiences. hence they assume all hunters are redneck neo-conservatives who love modern popular country music and drive a big truck

The dichotomy in that view though, is when applied to a different setting, such as urban Philadelphia (one of the highest gun crime/fatality zones in the USA), the usefulness and value of guns changes. There guns are obviously used for very different things than hunting.
It brings into play an innaresting question, for how do we truly monitor that aspect of gun possession as with sticking with our 2nd amendment rights?
Surely gun control is not answer for it not only eliminates the right of those who truly use guns for a righteous purpose, but it also takes away the ability to rise up against a tyrannical and wrongfully acting government (as described in the Declaration of Independence).
But, there must also be some way instituted to monitor the flow and use of guns amongst our society (looking at Philly for an example), so what form do we use to do this?

Legislation never seems to work to stop somebody who illegally owns a gun and uses it for an illegal activity.

I dont hunt, but i believe in my constititional right to bear arms. So i do. A nice German made stainless steel .45. owning guns is not necesarily inconsistent with the deadhead lifestyle. I remember in college there were the heads who had modified AK-47s to full auto. nothing like baking up and firing machine guns....
