Can anybody help me with the solo to loser. I wish I had the ear to mimic the vocal like Jerry. My ear is slowly, very slowly, improving, but I would love to, at least, "cheat" a little on this one and get some help.

I really would just like the melody(?) that mimics the vocal, so I can try to improvise around it. I know I'm skipping ahead of myself a little, but I thought this might help me get a feel for it, and I love playin' this song.

Any help would be Appreciated. Thanks.

use alot of chord tones...think when you are singing you go through scales but you focus on your 1-3&5 of the chord your singing over..so that applys the same to your playing...im not gonna tab out the whole thing but maybe ill get you somewhere until some one else does...

it start on an Am...so thats A C E....the melody starts on an A the way i usualy do it...i play off the Dm form with the A note on the 2nd string 10th fret...im in 7th position with my pinky on the A.

hopefully that will give u some idea...i usually stay right in the 7th position for the first 2 to 4 meters and its all very basic and reachable until you learn the melody then just twist and turn your way through it

playing the vocal melody is not something jerry invented...your not mimicing jerry by doing that, its kinda just the right thing to do

Thanks for the help. I know Jerry didn't invent it, but the way he weaves the vocal theme in and out of a lot of his jams is what pulled me in in the beginning. A lot of jam type guitarists don't really weave the theme. They might go on and on then drop into the theme just in time for the next verse, which can be good tension and release, but can take away from the song as a whole, as well.

Being a beginner, but being in a band that plays bars, at this stage I just struggle to try and get some type of melodic line and hit the roots on time. We're not good enough to play much Dead yet. We strum I Know You Rider and jam on Fire on the Mountain, but we're getting better, working on West L.A.

i was actually referring to warrens lack of input yet pompus remark that he doesnt mimic anybody and even tho he had no input for you he had to let it be known he is the king of free form improv...but im sure none of his stuff sounds original, were all doing things that have been done..

i play it the same way as posted but the C on the 13th fret and play around there from 12 to 15 on G to E, lots of reverb, if u have an autowah use it, on my qutron, i turn the Q way down and the other knob, forget what its called way up so its gets all squealy like jer

AH a harmonica player, wrench! I try myself. You say you play it in straight harp in 'G'? But not along with the recording, correct? It is in the family, and the chorus starts in 'G'... Hmmm, I'll have to go home and try it myself.

Use Blobs Tab and...
To make the 'squeal'sound-hit the string w/the pick and that thumbs nail at the same time.
Its hard..dont give up.Good luck
