i would love to be in that lion king crowd
not as much as i would like to be in phil's audience, i had doubts going into my show but phil played amazingly. GO SEE HIM, hopefully this lineup will remain semi steady. phil molitz is the finest keyboard player ever in phil's group and jackie greene's vocals are great.

only qualm is larry cambell, he totally butchered sugaree

i wholeheartedly agree with you, i love all of the current lineup except cambell. his guitar leads seem to lack emotion and emphasis, he seems to just go through the scales

Yes Phil is tearing it up fer sure. I 've seen this line up three times, and I'm still on the fence. The Camden show was good, but they only started really getting into it as the show was ending. Halloween was the best of the three that I saw, bu t there were a lot of covers, also everyones energy level was off the charts, bu the most disappointing show was last Sat. I don't know if its Jackie or if its Larry but something isn't clicking with this line up.

On an up note Molitz's keys remind me alot of Brent. e is on fire. Phil is playing off of him the most (well molitz and molo) I will be back to give this line up two more chances this weekend so if any one has any extras let me know!! Sunday is the day before my b-day and I would love to spend it with Phil!

i have to say, i was a huge fan of Barry Sless when he was touring with Phil and Friends. he played pedal steel for one set and then left and didn't come back... it seemed like Campbell was stealing his thunder during a number of solos and he just wasn't given the space to do his thang. and yes, Campbell's got the generic blues riffs on lock... i remember him soloing on Franklin's Tower and it was quite boring...

I agree, I like the line-up a lot, and love Larry, but IMO he's not that "drive it over the edge make you jump up and down" lead guitarist that I like. I need a Trey, Warren, MKII....someone to really make it rock.

And if you like Molitz, and you haven't heard the Unbroken Chain from the 10/20 Glen Falls show, stop what you're doing, do not pass go, do not collect $200. Go straight to the archive and listen to it. THE BEST Unbroken Chain I've ever heard, thanks to him. He rips it up at the end, firing these Star Wars-type sounds in during his solo. Fucking amazing. He's my favorite player so far @ keys in a P&F line-up. I'd have a tough time choosing between him & Baracco, just because I think Rob does some real good on some of the vocals (though can go too far at times) and is defintely good playing the instrument. I guess I'd take 'em both: Molitz for his playing, Baracco for his singing.

I saw the show in Syracuse, before the show the guy in front of me was raving to me about Molitz, and how he lead the band in Atlanta, etc...
well the show I saw I don't even remember heering the keyboards at all, was it an off night for Molitz, was anyone else there who has seen other shows this tour? If so what is your take?

Have you listened to a copy yet? I realize you were there, but you know how things sometimes sound different on disc than they did at the show? I got the SBD copy off Phil's site and it knocked my socks off. What propelled it to #1 was Molitz's solo. Fucking gnar shit he was playing. Very progressive for a GD interpretation, and especially progressive for Unbroken. Took it to another place I didn't even know it could go, and that's what did it for me. Extremely impressive.

But if you're going to disagree, at least give me a rebuttal!

that Glens Falls show was the ultimate for me. Mainly because of Trey, not because Im that big a fan of Trey but because he brought more to the table than Campbell, who I really dont like that much. And that Unbroken Chain was great. Trey really ripped up that blues section in the middle. Molitz was a little low in the mix though, IMO, although I was in the bleachers on Phil's side of the stage, across from Molitz so that might have been it.

I was at Saturday nights show, and I tell you what, it may have been me! I smelled like a dead skunk if you know what I mean. The rest of the place reeked too, so I guess it was a group effort. It is harvest season. I heard they cracked down after that.
We were in line for like a half hour outside, and the guard starting talking about set times. The people in front of us were like,"uh, this isnt the Lion King?!?!?"
I love how subjective these shows are. I really liked the second set of last Saturday. From Jack Straw on, that show smoked! The first set was a bit Jackie Greenish for me. I liked Camden too.
Larry Campbell has definately grown on me. Last year, I was not big on him, because of the bluesy playing, but I think he has really grown into the role. He is a freakin monster musician, and I respect him for that. And hats off to Phil to give him a shot at ripping it up. The guy was kinda stuck in his pro gig with Dylan,and along comes Phil and says, Rip it up,man.
