If you're not familiar with Stu Allen, he's the guitarist/vocalist that plays with Melvin Seals in "JGB".

Anyway, he has a solo project with a banb called
"Working Man's Ed". They were scheduled to play a show up here in Eureka on Friday. Their bass played backed out at the last minute, they called the club to see if there was anyone that could "Phil" in. I got the call around 4pm to see if I could do it. Of course I said yes. We had almost no time to rehearse, it went great. they were stoked that I was up to speed on so many Dead tunes. We didn't play anything too complicated. It was alot of fun. Wish I taped it.

did anyone tape it? That is the coolest thing ive heard in a while. When i was a freshman, this kid right next to me got picked to jame with michael franti and spearhead, we both were jumping up and down, but i think they picked him cuz he had long hair. Thats awsome though

That's awesome, man. I've seen him once with Melvin Seals & JGB, and he's amazing. He's got Jerry's voice and guitar tone down pat.

I got to jam with Stu too, last time they were in town. About a year ago a few days after after RR opened for JGB, the members of JGB played an impromptu gig w/o Melvin as "Stone Soup", and Ramblin' Rose was invited to jam. Our drummer, keyboardist and I got to play a run of songs with Stu and the JGB bassist, Marty. We didn't do any (current)JGB material, I think that was the rule of the evening. They were doing some knockout stuff on their own when we arrived, I recall "Lonely Ave" and an awe-inspiring "Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad?"

That's great and almighty cool - Stu is a great player . . . I can remember back when Stu was in the Jones Gang (MPLS based dead band) - I saw them in St. Peter, MN and I think there were more people on stage than in the crowd! If any of you are into the big wu, you surely remember the many late nights at wu family reunions with Stu playing acoustic under the tent . . . good times
