Anyone got'em? We plan on getting our female singer involved with some lead vocals, so I searched for this last night and all the versions I've found are WAY wrong. I guess I could decipher it myself with a little work, but just wondering if I could get a headstart.

Wow, Tom, freaky timing. I've been looking/starting to decipher this song too. Need a bit of help myself.

I can post what crap I've started with if you'd like?

Also, what versions on=line have you found?

Maybe between that and what I have we've got something closer?

Sure, let's both post what we've got.

I've found a few versions on some of those mega-tab sites... 123tab.com or something like that... but all the ones I've found are the same incorrect version. When I get home tonight I'll post the wrongness and the corrections I've made thus far.

You guys need to stop sniffing glue  . Sunrise??? Find something else for your female vocalists to sing!!!

Ugh...sorry, I just can't stand this song. Good luck though.

My Anthology book doesn't have Sunrise.
I've got something that is I'd say 60% give or take.
I'll post it later....

Benny, I agree there is nothing special about the song.
However, it is the most recognized Donna GD song!
We are trying to get our "Donna" to sing "You Ain't Woman Enough"

Whaaaaa? I distinctly remember the song being in there. However I haven't actually paged through a copy in probably well over 10 years. You got some pages missing? or is ithe "Guitar" Anthology? I think that had a slightly different selection from the regular GD Anthology.

And fwiw, I'd rather not hear from the haters. Sure it's a free forum, but if you want to be helpful, I'm interested in learning the song, not opinions of it. (Kinda rings of "I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him..." huh? ... OK, maybe not.) It's a Grateful Dead song, and that means somebody out there loves it.

That's it, Tom. I have the Guitar Anthology book.
Never realized there was a diff but now see there is.
D'oh!

I need to swing into Guitar Center today/tomorrow.
Maybe they'll have it.
And maybe I'll have my phone with a camera.
And maybe I'll have something to post later.

Unless somebody here has that book and can save me the hassle.

TS, Here is a public link to Zion's email:
http://www.heartofgoldband.com/bios/zion.htm

Surely he knows the chords, as they played it last time the Heart of Gold Band was here with DSO.

Other folks who could probably forward the chord chart might be John Kadlesic, or Jeff Mattson of the Tricksters.

Another song DJ sang with the Dead is Silver Threads and Golden Needles. 'Might also make a good lead voc for K.

I know Tiger this post isnt helpin you learn it.... But I just wanna get it out there that I think its a good song. Another that she might wanna tackle is From The Heart Of Me. And maybe work on France. I love all 3. As for Silver Threads ive only heard Bobbys country version. When did she sing it? Dates?

fwiw, Wanting to get the female vocalist into singing lead, but limiting her to songs DJ sang live with the Dead, doesn't leave her much wiggle room.
Did DJ sing and lead vox with JGB?
She must have a few songs in mind that she sing can sing fluent lead vocals on, no?
Maybe a Maria Muldaur tune?
You guys would rip on Midnight At The Oasis, for example.

G7+9? E7sus4?? Em? came up with some extra chords, and I'm pretty sure both C and Amaj are in there too.

alright here's my rough-out. Definitely needs some tweaks but I'm not exactly sure where.
Code: Select all
Intro:
Asus2 D... Asus2 D... F G

Verse
Am D F E F G
Gazing at the fire, burning by the wa-ter
Am Am/G   D          F       G       Am Am/G E... F G {|1.Am... |2. Amaj Asus4 A...}
Before he speaks the world around us quiets.
Bridge:
Code: Select all
Bb Bb7sus4 G7 C F
He hums, there are drums, four winds, rising suns,
Am Am/G Asus2 Fmaj7 D7
We are singing and playing.
Fmaj7 C F G A Asus4 A Asus4 A
  I hear what he's saying.
