Ok I know the drums are cheesy but I dont have a drumset and I don't play drums. I programmed one loop in fruity loops and just used that. I'm lazy about that.

I recorded this in Adobe Audition, I used my only mic, an audix i5, its an instrument mic i believe. I used that to mic the amp, the piano and my voice. Its run through a Tascam US-122.

Oh and of course my lovable Ibanez AS-83 and Fender Cyber-Twin. And the ever present analog man bi-comp.


You don't need a ton of fancy gear to get nice recordings.

A cheesy drum machine is all I had access to at the moment of inspiration. Its a handy tool to have around. As a matter of fact I was noodling along with that same exact pattern and came up with the progression and rhythms to an original song I'm just starting. I put it up on www.myspace.com/jdjohn.

Ok guys ignore the drum machine. Its starting to feel like you guys are using that as a reason to ignore the quality of the musicianship in the track.
I'm almost tempted to challenge someone here to produce a better peggy o, or any other song for that matter. I know this seems like I'm being a dick. But I feel like some of you are trying to find things wrong with the track to distract you from the quality of the guitar playing and singing.

I could be very wrong. And I apologise for making this assumtion but I sense jealousy.

Whoa settle down there buddy. First off Ill say I thought it was decent. Secondly the drum machine WAS cheesy. Thirdly you wanted criticism. People here will just tell you what it is they think you are lacking and what it is that you could improve on. I dont know aobut you but I wouldnt wanna hear oh that was great this is great because well I know it isnt. I wanna hear oh that coulda been better and you need to work on such and such. Thats my opinion anyways.

You're right Blob. I didn't mean to contend that the track was perfect and that it didn't need any improvement. I was frustrated because the cheesy drum machine was all I had to make a drum track. Still, I'm trying to get a drummer friend to do some real percussion for me.

I knew from the get-go that the drums sucked badly, which is probably why I got annoyed with people reiterating that flaw.

I'm sorry I got so defensive about it when I should have been taking all your suggestions to heart.

This was a multi track layered studio (my bedroom) recording. Whereas I'm partial to performing and recording in a live setting. But its been tough finding anyone else who listens to and plays GD music to work with me, so I end up doing all the parts myself.

Anyway I'm sorry folks, I was a dick. Thanks for the constructive criticism. I hope you don't think I'm a prick now.

you know i tryed to be nice, it just isn't my style man, you can be talented and people will still not be fans. You posted wanting to know what people thought, some people may really like the feel you gave the song and your guitar playing is great, i don't understand the unkind vibes

to me peggy-o is a slow ballad, your version is just very bouncy and up beat , the slow epic love ballad was one of the things i loved about peggy-o


btw : loved the track honky tonk

This might not be worth anything to anyone. But I take back the whole jealousy thing. I let pride get the best of me. I don't know what I was thinking when I posted that. Several stressful factors in my life lately have been allowing me to say really mean shit here and there. That's no excuse.

I got some very good reviews and I chose to focus on those that pointed out issues with the recording and I childishly became defensive before realizing that they were only trying to help me improve.

Sorry Folks. I'm not really an arrogant cocksucker elitist prick. I hope I can redeem myself.

Hey man its already forgotten as far as Im concerned. And I mean I listened again and the drum track isnt all THAT bad. I mean it does the job. Just wont have that "professional" sound till they are gone. But for just fartin around sounds great with em.
