And Im almost afraid to ask it, lest I be judged as some sort of internet n00b . . . but

What are some ways that I can integrate Bobby's rhythm into my playing. Ive always loved his intricate rhythm and awesome fills, but Ive never been able to pick it up. I mean Id mayhap even go so far as to say its easier to pick up on what Jerry was doing than Bobby.

Im not looking for "how did bobby play this" or what riff is bob playing here, but rather how do I incorporate Bob into me?

not a band thread man...dont be ashamed to be a Bobby fan. the guy is a master at the rhythm guitar, in my opinion he is the best.

For me it just happened, when i first started playing when i was 14 the dead were the biggest influence on me, especially bobby. So now when i play, 60% of the time it is very similiar to bobby style just becasue its like I am hearing bobbys parts in my head and then it just comes out that way. So I have been told that even though i dont always play the same chord structures that bobby played/plays i still sound like him a lot. I dont think i helped but my last part of mt ramble is just try to listen to him over and over and over and then just try to hear it in your head while your jamming with people or playing by yourself.

I think it is a great question. I think first and foremost, one needs to master the CAGED system. There are tons of threads here to explain it. Bob was comfortable playing chords, and suspensions of those chords all over the fretboard.

Second, I would listen to Bob's pocket. That is to say, where does he hit chords in the measures, what beats does he tend to accentuate. What beats does he lay off.

Third, R and B. Listen to old school R and B guitar players. There is so much of that "lead/rhythm" playing there that made Bobby such a special player.

Fourth, get hooked up with a guy like Jerry G to take you in and show you the ropes. It worked for Bob.

1st thing I'd do is target a song.W/good clear Bob-isms.
2nd thing-listen to it over and over.
He has one unique style.He rarely plows thru stuff;always about picking his spots.
Accents and stuff.
I hate when I overplay something.Its hard to leave spaces in the music.I think Bob does that well.
