'82 is my favorite year.Always hear or read bad things about '82,but I still love those shows.Never heard the show in question,gonna check it out.Love wacky space stuff.I think theres a Red Rocks show w/ a Harley during the drums space.Listen closely and you can hear the roadies Talking as they gun the engine.Cant remember the date.Love that Stuff...

Your right 83 has some GREAT shows in it. I love the first help/slip/frank since the seventies they broke out in 83. And to be honest I think phil's playing starts to sound even better in 83 than it did say two to three years earlier. Oh whatever all the years have some gems in them. Still when I think of the grateful dead "sound" to me it's the sound of the band in the early eighties.

Still when I think of the grateful dead "sound" to me it's the sound of the band in the early eighties.Yes there were many great shows ion '83, but listen to Jerry's playin, it is more machine like, faster, less psyhedelic, and the overall energy of the shows, '82 you can tell they all all having a great time, opening 1st sets with playin', also Jer's voice undergoes a tremendous change from'82-'83, In '82 he still retains a youthful timbre to it. Anyway, dead shows were all about the journey and transforamtion, and that magic was still there in shows till the very end!

hi.. a bunch of us wahoos were standing in front of phil.. i was the only one who just LOVED phil's bass back then... we had smuggled in a bunch a whippets.. a friend of mine made a screw on thing that could pierce a whole box at once... and at some point, phil does the raven space thing at the guy who was wearing the uva hat ( poe was a uva lad ) who had just hit that whippet thingee..

we went to a show at some liberal arts college the year or two after and "decided" we were gonna just "go there instead..." strong isotopes//
