Imho, he does not, and I'm sure you and several others will continue to disagree with me on this point. To me they are two very distinct compositions. What about the diminished figure that recurs throughout Let It Grow- is that a Slipknot tease? I don't think every time they use a diminished scale qualifies as a "Slipknot" figure.

Now listen to the tracks I mentioned from 2/22&23/74... THOSE are Slipknot teases!

the first official slipknot was on 6-20-74, it was an eyes >slip >china doll (not that that matters, but the outro jam of eyes that tigerstrat is talking about are what evolved into slipknot. it might not have been called that but it is. take another listen to 5-26-73 like I am as i write this eyes >slip >china doll (unofficial)

Ah thanks, that must be the summer Slipknot tease I'd been trying to think of, but it's still just a tease, and it comes well after they've gone through the Eyes outro and are deep into the Dm "transition" territory that usually led to China Doll or Stella Blue. As with the February Winterland teases, it's still just an undeveloped playing around with the "half-whip" figure... an obvious improv moment, something Jerry must have been fooling with of late and on a whim decided to drag the rest of band along. You can tell nobody else in the band is even hip to what's happening. Keith kind of picks up on it towards the end. Leads to a Great Doll!

Sure I'll admit the Eyes jam is related to the same type of musical exploration as Slipknot (not to mention King Solomon's- imho a slightly closer resemblance of the central riff), and could perhaps even be considered its predecessor. However the Eyes jam is a separate musical piece with a discernably unique structure, rhythm, and progression- it's definitely something other than Slipknot.

The first performance of "Slipknot!" was 6/17/75, the Bob Fried Memorial, following the first (instrumental) Help On The Way.

apologies to the thread originator for hijacking your China Doll thread! The 6/20/74 kkat mentioned is an awesome one.

I wasnt sayin its straight up Slipknot. But its got the same feel. And the ones from Let It Grow are totally different. They dont build. The ones in Eyes and Slipknot build up and up and up. But yeah I wasnt sayin it is the exact same thing. But its got the same feel. Ill have to check out the ones you mentioned. Still didnt get around to it.
