Jackr I totally agree with you theres alot of better bass players than Phil, but better also includes alot of ones tastes .... but I believe that Phil is my favorite because he touched me with his music the most ... I saw the Dead 300 + in the 80's, a few runs in the 90's .... I just got captivated by him, the places he would with it, the sometimes endless funky solo that seemed to be going on for the bassline to Women/Smarter ... Other One Bombs in the spectrum dosed to the gils ... he just touched me the most ... hey when Phil was on the Dead were on .... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cheater at the 7th fret come on...going for some high pitched finger picking patterns, it sounds so lame though just change the key of the song and play it down where it belongs...with just one guitar his 7th position sounded way to thin

Well, I've got 2 shows in Boston and am excited for them REGARDLESS of these (or any other reviews). Know why? IT'S PHIL. And I get to hear him. Again.

Maybe I'm wrong but RD has been a fairly stable band for the past few years with the exception of MK getting recently ill. Hasn't P&F's line-up changed significantly every year?

The point being, Kimmock himself said they didn't rehearse, who shoulders that blame, the bandleader right? for that my ass was handed to me, and furthermore if you guys go to a show with revolving musicians .. I guess you can't expect it to be that tight.

Yup, I blame Bob. But I honestly don't remember the timing of MK stepping down and SM stepping in for him. Was there time to rehearse?

Agree with strummin...you want tight?...early 70's...sometimes they were loose-tight...just when everything seemed to be falling to pieces...WOOOSH! they'd find that tight groove again...I loved it when that happened...For me it was part of their appeal...

Personally, I like the There and Back Again line-up. Phil, Haynes, Herring, Molo, Baracco. Although I did see them in the winter of '05 with Chris Robinson and they were pretty good. Although I think he shouldn't change line-ups that much. It's a bit of a pain in the ass trying to figure out who the Phriends are this month. Just my two cents.....

I dont know it was pretty much mutual feeling with my family and the people around me. I personally couldnt stand Jackie hopping around, the other guitar player just played unwarranted blues licks, he didnt even pull off a decent deal lead. And that set ender with the violin ughh . I couldnt hear the keyboards, drums were off. Everything was loose, I know im reiterating the same points as before but come on 1 hour break? No explanation even after a shitty first set? Im a little at odds with many of you here, me following in my dads Wharf Rat footsteps but the only ones dancing were really high. Everyone sober hated it. Oh ya and there was this undercover cop next to us, on a walky talky just standing there.
